It's pretty clear that we would probably all love to do music for a living, but what is it that we really do to put food on the table? I know some here are lucky enough to call audio their profession in one way or another, but what about the rest of us?

What do you do? Do you make a decent amount of money? Does it make you happy or are you actively looking to pursue something else? If you go to school, what for and what do you hope to become?

I'm pretty much a worthless dude with a job as opposed to a career. Spent my youth trying to "be in a band" rather than go to college. Now I'm working at beer brewery bottling beer for ten dollars an hour. They don't give me enough free beer or enough money to make it worth while, so I'm hoping to actually find a career to pursue. The trouble is finding one!

What about you guys?

I work at a crappy retail job part-time (I'm a terrible salesman)when I'm not at school lazily trying to get good grades.
I go to school for Sports Sciences and hope to become a Physical Therapist/Strength and Conditioning Specialist.

My main goal is from day one has always been to not hate life when I get older; money is not my main drive anymore. If I can stay happy, then all will be well.

Hi Dudes, good thread btw!

I´m driving on two tracks jobwise..the first (and for me most important) is my guitarschool. I can say, that´s my financial security and i´m very glad, that it runs very well. The second is my Studio. I often have the ability to earn money with recording artists. I love it! My Joker is, that I produce each shit..I did country, R´n b, classical, folk, electronic music, music for films & each kind of Metal/Rock. Nearly all genres. I want to give this my personal stamp and the people appreciate it and pay. Money don´t stinks and new gear is not bad :) But Metal is my passion.

Full time student (supposedly haha) and part-time radio host (at the state's second biggest private station), rockstar and gigolo (more or less of the latter two)...

Life is quite good atm, though I'm not making nearly as much as I could in the radio biz because I'm usually hosting a weekend show but the damn band is way to high in my priorities. But that's okay - the giging, creative outlet, free booze, chicks and just the random mayhem going on on the road makes up for the time I could use for earning more money.

But the future looks very sketchy atm, I'm about two wrap up my university degree and the band is slowly but very steadily getting bigger, so things get more and more into conflict.

I'd really like to go back to PR work for the cash or do a doctorate, but editorial/journalistic work is quite nice too and being a radio host is also quite neato.

So I probably end up being unemployed anyway

I drink alot.. and sometimes i play guitar too!
.. Thats my life basically!

Flower arranging is basically my life next to music and mixing.. That's just a hobby though, i make money with being a part-time fluffer at night, and fecal archaeologist at day, that's right.

Professional Guitarist.

I work in studios, have books and DVDs for sale, give clinics and lectures, studio musician and AE, CDs with bands, touring, composing for film/TV etc

Basically, you name something in the music industry and I have done it

Hhahahaahahahahaha Bob

I'm gonna get my BS (Bachelor of Science degree) this coming May in geography with a concentration in Urban Planning; I interned at the Westchester County Planning Dept. this past summer, and it seemed like EXACTLY what I want in a job - consistent (AND CONTAINED) hours, friendly, relaxed atmosphere, and because it's a govermental position, low pay but high job security and benefits. In other words, the perfect gig to leave me with time and energy to focus on my music! :headbang: And grad school can COMPLETELY go fuck itself, if I do ever end up going, it won't be for at least a year or two.

i am a cook at a real authentic new york style pizzareia, its so good it makes the most jewish of newyorkers stfu hahaha that place gets so damn busy to D:

Fucking awesome man, congrats on being able to make a living from that, and good luck! :kickass:

Dude...I checked out some of the vids on your website, and I have no doubt you can do that for a living, dayum!

I had a full time job as electrician and plastics lead-molder for C-More Systems, top of the line red dot sights for firearms. Worked there for a year and a half then quit to focus on my own production company.

Right now I'm getting lined up for a job/school position with a local film company, and I'll be doing anything and everything. I've also got a potential job for me at a local stage venue recording their performances. It's a county owned venue, so it's a government position. :D Yeah Marcus, we got it got good there man. I'm guessing after 6-12 months they'll have me head up the entire video department which would be very sweet indeed.

Till then I'm working for myself doing AV and stage production work. Not great pay and jobs are few and far between, but I love it.

Thank you, Marcus :) The good thing is, I have all important Instruments in my studio and can play, for example, drums with my guitar pupil playin guitar together. They love it! That´s pure bandfeeling & rock´n roll!

It´s also good to record some guitar pupils for analyzing their guitar skills. I make recording sessions, bandcoaching, bandsession with ´em, putting some good players together etc..I think, that´s the reason, why it runs well. And you can believe me..when these young kids are older, having a band and wanna record some stuff, they´ll come to me.

I've been a construction worker on and off for two years after I got out of high school, just served in the army for six months in between working. I quit two weeks ago and I'm gonna start studying at an audio production school next week. Hopefully I'm making my living off the music biz after I'm done with the school :)
