What was it like when you were new...

I was really little still in diapers. I would suck all the hot mothers hooters while wearing my morbid angel T-Shirt.

I had only really begun my long road with metal when I heard The Sound of Perseverance.

Same here. I was listening to rock 108, 24 hour non-stop pure rock, when a death metal song came on. I was like "dude, that owned". I went to a music store, picked it up on a whim (death, they're probably death metal . . .), listened to the thirty second sample, loved it, bought it, loved, and voila, I was all of a sudden a metalhead. I bypassed the shit.

Back when I was eleven I used to watch MTV a lot and I saw Metallica on MTV and I thought they were cool, so I asked my dad if he had any of their albums, and he gave me a cassett of The Black Album. I used to listen to that like all day. Then nu metal became big a year later, so I listened to bands like Korn, Limp Bizkit, Deftones, Slipknot, Linkin Park, etc. for the next few years. :erk: Then when the nu metal wave was dying out by the time I turned sixteen, I went back to Metallica. I wanted to hear more 80s metal bands, so I started listening to Slayer and Iron Maiden because they sounded cool. I bought the classic Slayer albums like Reign in Blood, South of Heaven, and Seasons in the Abyss, and I listened to those a lot. Then I bought a few of Iron Maiden's classic albums - The Number of the Beast and Piece of Mind, but I was really blown away the most by Powerslave. It made me totally forget about listening Metallica and Slayer lol. I discovered most of the rest of the bands through the internet pretty much. But now I'm starting to listen to jazz fusion more, though I still love metal. I don't really care for brutality and kvltness, I'd rather listen for virtuosity and cheesy power metal fun.

The song that got me into metal was Demon Hunter-Infected about four years ago. It's so funny how most everyone on their forum (myself included, and I'm a mod:lol: ) doesn't like them.

Well, this is kinda embarrassing…About 5 years ago a friend of mine asked if I have ever heard black metal. Of course I haven’t, so my first response was “do blacks sing it?”.
Heh, well the first song that I ever heard was Dark Funeral’s “An Apprentice of Satan” and it blew me away. After than I was hooked and some of my first metal bands were Entombed, Dark Tranquility, In Flames, Oldmanschild, Children of Bodom, and many others. The more I listened, the more I started to realize that metal is an incredibly diverse style of music that has genres for every mood one can ever be in and most importantly that I can never stop listening to it.

Man, it was really exciting, especially as a teenager. I got into metal properly in about 1985, aged 10 or so. The real peak of excitement was from 1986 to 1993 (my school days), what with the thrash boom, taping albums from friends, tape trading with small ads in the back of Raw!, Kerrang! and Metal Hammer magazines.

I had so lieelt money that I just used to buy crappy tapes by the bucket load to copy albums. I used to save ALL my money just to buy the select few tapes and albums that I loved. I remember spilling cider all over my Arise album and having to carefully snip bits of the tape and repair it with sellotape!

I remember having a "rumble" in the local park, thrashers vs glamsters. More skin tight jeans, hi-tops, bangles and glitter than should ever be in a fight.

Happy, carefree days!

Hahhaha the first Black Metal song I heard was Bathory's Woman of Dark Desires. I was just like "What the f----- it sounds like a dying frog" at first and I didn't listen again for several months. But then I downloaded some other songs from that album and it started to make sense.

In 1979 I was 12 and I started listening to Sabbath, AC/DC, Zeppelin, Purple, Priest, Scorps, Motorhead, Hendrix, Rush, UFO, Molly Hatchet, Blackfoot, Crimson, Tull, Yes, Genesis, Floyd - basically loads of classic 70s bands, as well as some punk. Then Maiden came along and quickly became one of my favourite bands. And in 1985 I heard Metallica for the first time and pretty soon I was also listening to Anthrax, Slayer, Helloween, Megadeth etc, etc.

I was about 13..a friend of mine left behind his Blizzard of Ozz cassette behind, so I took it home to listen to it before giving it back to my friend. I was hooked. Got immediately in Ozzy/Sabbath, Priest and Maiden. Then got into thrash w/ Megadeth, Metallica & Anthrax.

What does a dying frog sound like ?

Do you kill frogs

meanie

When I got into metal, it was way, way before the internet was around. So I very slowly found new bands. Basically, when I was 12, I got into Metallica and Antrax, and like how their music was heavier and the lyrics weren't about girls/sex/partying. Previously I had been listening to that 80s hair rock crap, but it was too bright and happy for me, really. So after getting into Antrax and Metallica, I found Megadeth, Testament, Slayer etc. Then after a couple years I started listening to death metal, and then black metal.

My cat eats frogs. He is grIm.

I'm not sure if my cats eat frogs. My cats will chew/lick out guts from birds and leave half the carcass.

One of my cats likes to bring birds into the house for some reason. I will hear the cat meowing or scatching and I let it in not realizing a birds in its mouth. I have had half dead birds getting feathers/blood on the rug. I think one of my cats actually brought a crow into the house one time when a door was open(no idea how it could have held it)

Cats are awesome.

Odin is the best cat though. I love petting his tummy. He loves me so much and lets me do anything I want. And when he starts to bite too hard (he play bites) I say "no bite" and he licks my hand. =D
