What??

Hey, going to this forum I have completely forgotten about the official site... This is very very bad...
Danny left... it's a great shock for me, I haven't felt such since Jason left Metallica... that time I just couldn't make up my mind after seeing mesage like this on the forum like this...
But Danny... and Anathema... that's not quite the same situation. I am at a loss with words, I only can hope that he will make great member of Antimatter, and their music will be improving and he will complete his promises...

I still cannot understand why they're leaving for nothing of for doing other music... doesn't matter... just leaving...

Oh~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I can't believe that!
It's Very SHOCK........
I admire Danny in Anathema the most!
has he got any argument with other member?
and what he means "frontman"?who is it?
Anyway,I will still support Danny's music!Antimatter.

????? WHAT ?

I can't believe this! It must be an April's fool joke!

Yes, I can see it now: in 2003 Duncan leaves Antimatter and enters Anathema on drums, while John will take over the vocals and guitar from Vinny who becomes a member of Cradle of Filth and turns them into the direction of Pure Philosophical Synthesizer-Blues with Hegel and Heidegger influences! But what about Les Smith?

This is ughm, bad.

:(

Whats happening with this guys!!!!
are they crazy??
my favorite writers were duncan and danny now they are out of my fav. band!!
Now whoes gonna write ??? :John,(im ashamed to say this but, am very fucked with this notice) sorry john but i don´t like very much your songwrites.
I would like to see Antimatter more metal orientated then, if danny says is gonna be like "true Anathema"!!!, lets wait what happen.
Hey Vinny who are you gonna fire now??, Les maybe (joking!!), you can also play 2 "Bloody" Guitars, like you said in the last interview about the bass!!) :)

Sh*t I´m almost crying!!!

It´s Strange this you know,
I was reading various metal stuff in my computer and saw the link to see a picture of lee douglas on a poland site, there was a notice but in polish, and whhaattt Danny saying goodbye????.
 , i didn´t imagine to open a Anathema Page today and look what it happend, what a bad luck!!! :(

Hey Mullholand, thats you or is Demo. from Immortal ??? Great Picture!!

Hey, well what can i say, im sooooooo shocked by the news, this i did not expect at all, that´s for sure. It makes me feel sad cuz that means im never seeing Anathema live, it sucks big time.

On the other hand i hope Antimatter improves with the entrance of Danny, but what will happen to Anathema? and what´s that bull about a frontman? Too confused now, sorry.

It´s a pity such great musicians get this kind of differences, reminds me Water vs Gilmour, only in a more unexpected way.

What about burning all Pink Floyd black circles?..:p ...
Guess I don't have humour.....
Anathema are forever.....Hope the same for Antimatter.....:)
.....Stating the obvious of course.....
.....Sometimes i wish it is true too...
....Damn me and my superficial trust...

OK, a few thoughts:

1) FUCK

2) Saddly I must say I'm not totally surprised by this, Anathema have been on the path of commercialism for a few years now and, while there is nothing at all wrong with that, I do see this as a condition of the mainstream, where everything is expendable to advance the band. First Duncan, now Danny, hell those are the two song writers (forget Vinny who what, wrote one (albeit great) song on A4, and John who, well, how effective is a drummer as a songwriter anyway (I mean in terms of chord and melody writing)).

3) Didn't Duncan leave because him and Danny were always fighting? Now they are in the same band? Did I miss something?

4) Why don't Antimatter change their name to Anathema and tell the others to fuck off?

5) Are you really satisfied with the explanation that Danny has given? I say this, because I miss the old days of metal, where if shit happened, the band told you about it, none of this crap that seems to be acceptable these days where people leave and say "oh, nothing important, creative differences, y'know..". I have all their albums, the video, I've sunk a few hundred dollars into the band, not to mention the MASSIVE emotional impact every one of their albums (except the last) has had on me (and when I discovered them, it was a life changing experiance, and I don't say this lightly (in combination with MDB)). The "Oh, I'm much happier doing this" doesn't sit well with me. Oh well, atleast it's better than the explanation Dave gave. (and in saying all this, no I dont' think the band 'owe' me anything, I realise it's probably extremely personal, what with the brothers and stuff, but I hope you get my point)

6) Fuck, once again

7) HOORAY. The return of the Anathema I know and love!! (well, Antimatter anyway...)

The news about Danny's leaving came as a big surprise to me. I didn't know that there were so many internal problems in the band. I hope both bands continue creating great works but only the future will show what will happen...
I guess now the only thing we must anticipate now is for Darren White to join Antimatter... :) :)

very mixed feelings there...
on one hand, i'm really looking forward to new antimatter now
on the other, i fear anathema might break up and i will never see them live again. well, actually, it's pretty sure that i will never see THEM live again...

oh fuck

Well, that's good to see new good band appearing but it's much worse to see another good disappearing...
I feel I never will find music like Anathema, cos I don't think they're gonna play and fuck along, though still believe in Anathema and never won't.
Too much ass was kicked last night...

Ok, now that our heads have cleared a bit, does anybody have a prediction for the future of these musicians? What will the new Antimatter and Anathema sound like?

yourdeadgroom: You underestimate John Douglas as a songwriter, after all he's responsible for "Wings of God" and "Leave no Trace", among others, not to mention the immortal "In the Doghouse" ;)

I believe that "creative differences" is the true reason for this split, and it's the most important reason there can be. I know how it feels, I have left a band due to creative differences myself... Anyway, I hope for the best outcome - there is a chance that we get two great bands instead of one, excuse the banality.

John Carvajal: both of your guesses are right, of course, that's my picture - I'm Horgh in disguise! :p

Horgh

has anyone got an experience to talk with Vincent during Anathema's live b4?sometimes I doubt,is he not so kind?so always has got an argument with Danny?
and I have heard some fans said that Anathema members are not amicable.that I really don't know

i can't in any way agree with this. to me there is no commercialism or mainstream in AFDTE - to me it's the exact same stuff as TSE, Eternity, whatever. the fact that the band hasn't "advanced" supports this too a little. of course the album sales go up, but i think that's because of us (the fans) promoting them, and not Anathema being mainstream.
if their sound coincides, or will ever coincide, with what the general braindead MTV audience likes and buys, then good. Anathema, if any band, deserve(d?) success.

sorry. everytime someone says that about their latter work I have to defend it with my life. that's how it is.

..not that you're wrong. after all, everything in this world is in the mind of the beholder (not the eye).

-

now what's interesting is Danny's view on where Anathema were going. "...and alot closer to the true Anathema of Alternative 4, Eternity and songs like Temporary Peace...", as he puts it contradicts a lot of stuff Vincents been saying in interviews about how they never look back and always move forward etc..

...ah fuck. i don't feel like typing now. plus my english suffers when i'm tired... to the point:
i think there are 2 possibilities now..
1). the end of Anathema.
2). an "old" and a "new" Anathema. peace on earth and the forum.

*goes to bed*

Well, each release has been less M_E_T_A_L and heading in more of a 'rock' direction, they aren't the atmospheric doom they used to be. Their stuff is now more likely to get air time than anything on TSE, to be sure ;)
