Whats the deal with Metalcore?

That's true :( , the metalcore scene has become too much popular, now any stupid kid think that can speak about metal just for to listen atreyu... that sucks... as my english...

Metalcore was the reason i got into extreme metal, but it became stale fast, though there are a few gems i still listen to like Norma Jean's first album, killswitch Engage, Glass Casket, Blood Has Been Shed, Between The Buried And Me, The chariot, Misery Signals, and Poison The Well (who's new stuff is pretty unique actually). Newer bands like Job For A Cowboy and Suicide Silence are superb as well. But i agree with most of you, the "scene" bands are a huge reason i stopped listening to metalcore, those damn bands destroyed any respect for the genre by polluting it with generic and hackneyed gothenburg rip off riffs, boring and pretentious breakdowns, and gay screamo vocals. I live in Orlando, and this city is infested with stupid metal-wannabe "scene" bands, so trust me, i know what im talking about. I hate that crap.

Pure DM arguably is because of the lack of variety, but i don't feel Gothenburgh DM is. As for Blackmetal, stuff like Mayhem and Darkthrone are because they're shite, the likes of Emperor and Immortal certainly aren't.

Gothenburg metal is the most generic ever. Throw in some power chords and harmonic lead and you have a song - there's no substance beneath that basic formula. Mayhem and Darkthrone are pioneers and while there are lots of new bands that sound like them you can't blame them for that. I don't see the distinction between them and Emperor/Immortal. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean its generic.

I love Between the Buried and Me, but I can't stand stuff like Atreuy, Shadows Fall, Darkest Hour etc. KsE and LoG are ok I guess.

Hey all, I've been perusing this board for a few months now but this was the thread that finally made me want to sign up and contribute.

Metalcore, though not all-encompassing, is truly garbage. The majority of the stuff being produced is so generic that it is actually difficult to differentiate bands from one another! After sifting through several albums and attending many live shows, I've found only a select few amongst (considered to be within the genre) the metalcore scene that have any listenability.

Namely: Between the Buried and Me, Darkest Hour (except the vocals), Zao, Becoming the Archetype, and Misery Signals with "noteables" going to The Red Death, As I Lay Dying, Killswitch (older stuff), and Mortal Treason.

As for the other bands seeded frequently throughout the thread, I find Lamb of God, Avenged Sevenfold, Norma Jean, Atreyu, and Trivium to thoroughly suck.....even though I own Ascendency....quite the mistake....

Come to think of it, that song "Bayonnet Work" by Norma Jean is actually a fitting name as I do get the sensation that my tympanic membrane is being skewered by a sharp instrument each time I hear it. Interesting.

Another point I've seen a few times here is the "image" portrayed by the metalcore kids. I hate the "scene" kids. The infestation is spreading to metal shows too! I actually witnessed slam-dancing at the Opeth show in Worcestor a few months ago AND overheard a few discussing how "metal" Drowning Pool is :ill: (Damn Headbanger's Ball and it's influence :yell: )

Ugh...this metalcore phase needs to pass....any fad where its fan-base is encouraged to dress in girls jeans is destined for failure anyhow.

**By the way, I've been an Opeth fan since Blackwater Park - I'm not a "n00b" influenced by Roadrunner's reach and GR's recent debut. Please keep the flaming to a minimum.

Welcome To The Boards!

Thankee, looking forward to getting aquainted - the last forum I posted on (MetalHQ) just went under. Orphaned, I was forced to find a new home, thus I've chosen to anchor and take root here at Ultimate Metal. Y'all seem cool, should be a good time.
