Hefe + Pilsner + most lagers = DO NOT PASS GO, DO NOT SCOOP UP YOUR JEWTOKENS, GO STRAIGHT TO HELL

Granted, a good hefe can, can be refreshing, but generally only in an "I'm excited to have an excuse to drink outdoors at high noon because of some summer festival" type of way. Lagers can be okay if I don't feel like drinking something good. Pilsners can suck it and suck it hard.

IPA = :kickass: beer of the summer

Not really, no. ALTHOUGH: I have not actually tried German beer bottled and brewed in Germany itself, which I do plan on doing someday. Also I've not tried every German beer in the world, but the style doesn't much appeal to me. Beck's and the like are perfectly fine at a bar when the only alternative is shit American beer, but that isn't saying much.

look. beck's is fucking tripe. have you tried dark hefe weissbiers?

and yeah, i can vouch for the fact that sitting in the sun on some sidewalk bar in frankfurt and drinking genuine german weissbier for like 2 euros a half liter is pretty fucking AWESOME.

Also it's not fair for me to act like I hate this style of beer, because I don't. I just don't particularly care for it.

The only kind I remember liking is Hoeoeosdgarden or whatever it's called, don't think I've had any dark hefes.

ok whatever. drinking weihenstephaner at the moment, it's great. advertised as being from the "oldest brewery in the world" on the label. :dopey: i really think weissbiers are very suited to summer drinking.

maybe you should try some proper german dark weissbiers sometime. they're really nice beers.. i get the vibe that you somehow associate weissbiers with commercial lagers and shit like that just because it's light or whatever. good light AND dark weissbiers are very enjoyable Real Beers and defi-fucking-nitely not to be compared with cheap garbage lagers like beck's. then again it might just not be your thing, i guess you were always a more ENGLISH REAL ALE RAAARGH kind of guy

:kickass: :kickass: :kickass: I mean, umm, yes. :loco:

Wait, "proper german dark weissbiers" are basically dark lagers, yes? If that's the case I've had a lot of dark lagers, and :ill: is the best way to describe them. Well, a few have been pretty okay but for the most part I haven't enjoyed them much.

But either way, I fear no beer and will try anything thrown my way, even if it's in a style I don't normally enjoy.

erdinger weissbier dunkel is not too fancy but a bit of a classic i guess
franziskaner hefe-weissbier dunkel
paulaner hefe-weissbier dunkel

lol basically anything that is called "weissbier dunkel". :loco: as you prolly know, "hefe" means unfiltered = with yeast particles and "kristallklar" and "hell" both mean filtered i think... get hefe

My local place carries the Frankziskaner, and I think the other two as well, will try them out soonish. Actually I think I've had the Frankzkzkrskrainer before, but I dun't remember it. Not remembering can be good, but is usually bad in my case because I try to have unfamiliar beers first of the evening so as not to be swayed by drunken tastebuds. :Spin:

cool. oh well i'm finished with my WEIHENSTEPHANER now = over to YOUNG'S LUXURY DOUBLE CHOCOLATE STOUT. sadly this is about the coolest beer my local alcohol monopoly store has... god systembolaget piteå sucks re: beer selection

I love Young's Chocolate Stout, although their other beers sorta disappoint. The ones I've had anyhow. Although I do give them credit for having a beer called Dirty Dick huhuuhuuhuhuuuh

A friend of mine kept nagging about Weinstefaner and how amazing it was and all, but when I finally tried it I was kind of disappointed. It had a strange almost sour kind of taste which I did not fancy at all. NAD's Hoeoeosdgarden (or Hoergarten) on the other hand is fucking ace, allthough it doesn't really taste much "beer" tbh. Anyhow, that is a summer's beer if any with it's "citric" freshness

Just got back from the liq store with the following:

prob the only pilsner I care for AT ALL...even so it isn't anything special.

Top3 non-imperial IPA out there. mmm

These guys are a first for me. Founders is one of the best breweries in the world so Im sure I wont be dissapointed!

one of my all-time favs.

It's tough to find a decent hefe, or any wheat ale for that matter. The biggest exception is Three Floyds Gumballhead. Although it isnt a prototypical wheat beer cuz of the mass amounts of amarillo hops thrown into it, its still a wheat ale and FFF rules our faces. Also Paulaner and Weihenstephaner, as Erik pointed out, are pretty damn good wheats. Other than that, its pretty damn tough to get a GREAT wheat ale.

edit: i had to re-type this entire fucking post after I accidentally edited it with another post...fucker/.
