When did the heavy metal "scene" jump the Orca?

Jeeeeeeesus chriiiiiiist and people ask when the 'scene'/forum 'jumped the shark. Sheesh. People bitching about headbanging at a fucking metal show. Give me a break. You bitch about moshing AND headbanging, in the same post. Disgusting. Go sit at the bar if you are that much of a metrosexual. It's not a god damn acid jazz show.

What the fuck is the point of mosh pits? It's stupid as hell. There is nothing wrong with head banging, it's just that most of those people start to freak out, and whip their hair in every direction, it's just annoying as fuck.

even so, i think being active on the internet is still being part of an overall scene, assuming you're trying to have your voice heard via a zine, or even like Jim over at LotFP.

just look at the trend of myspace. even bands use it. discounting the internet as a tool is foolish.

even BUYING albums helps the scene, if you will. downloading helps no one but yourself and shows how much you HURT the scene. yeah, im talking to most of you.

never was much of a scenester. just jeff

I didn't say the internet wasn't part of the scene, just that lots of keyboard-warriors like to comment on the 'scene' that they are not part of.

For the record I fucking hate mosh pits at metal shows.

Tully for the WIN in this thread. Its not as if you cant listen to metal and live an average Joes lifestyle, but you have to understand that there are those of us who live for metal as well. Its fucking rediculous how much time I devote to music. If Im not rehearsing or recording Im going to shows or promoting concerts and events- printing flyers, burning demo CD's, networking, etc. IMO one of the reasons metal has continued to flourish in the underground is the hardcore devotion of the fans- the intensity and passion for supporting the music they love.

And now Im going to listen to Painkiller.
