Who is *NOT* available in 2008.....

Iced Earth, Nocturnal Rites, and Dream Evil strike me as major players on the Power side that should get a spot at some point.

I also like the idea of Pretty Maids in a 2 or 3 spot, although I fear they'd get a similar reaction to Pink Cream 69 (meaning midly warm...not hot, not cold).

I've seen 'em live more times than I can count, and I've NEVER been disappointed by their show. They are just one of the best live acts in heavy metal. Besides, with Morten from MERCENARY on keyboards they've already won over half the PP USA audience :)

Hey Glenn,

Thanks for the update. Just thinking of some bands that I would like to see play next year.

Masterplan
Crimson Glory

Savatage - I would love to see a reunited band with them playing all the classics. Zac would be a welcome but if it was just Jon, that would be all I need. Jon is awesome.

Symphony X - One of my favorite bands and it has been a long time since they have graced the progpower stage. Would love to see them again.

Circus Maximus - They can play every year in my book. Bring em back.

Nightwish - If Tarot is out, I would love to see these guys with the new singer.

These are a just a few off the top of my head, I know the list will grow as the year goes by.

I look forward to seeing you soon.

With all these requests and totally diverting from the topic of the thread I wouldnt be surprised if Glenn deletes it next time he see this thread.

Just out of curiosity, what slot do you see them in?

Well, to avoid the "Rage factor", I'd put them at a 3 or 4. Certainly, 25 years of work puts you automatically at a 3 in my book. I'd say because they don't have the "buzz" that other bands seem to create, a 3 would be the safe bet. Personally, and in the scope of the scene, I feel they are a solid 4 but business-wise I'm not so sure.

I just wanted to edit and add: I try really hard not to be a total fanboy when I make a suggestion for a player at PP. Of course, I'm a FAN of the band, but I also realize there is a business end to things too (although this is not something I know about to a great extent). When I request Pretty Maids at 3/4 I think they are a legit 3/4 both in terms of business and power. I see them as a band that is established enough to rank high on the list but due to people's forgetting about them or places not stocking their cds, I think a 3 is realistic. I think it's important to push for them, though, not just because they have been strong on releases for 20+ years, but I feel that like Therion or Freak Kitchen, they would legit bump up to a 4 the next time they came through. Bands don't exist for 20+ years and not have a killer live show. It just doesn't happen. I feel the same confidence when I suggest a Tiamat or Crematory at 3, Wig Wam or Charon or Xandria or Poisonblack at 2, or a Sonic Syndicate at 1. I like those bands but I also feel they would be future movers upward on the ladder were they to play on the bill. They have commercial appeal, some name recognition (although I don't expect too many around here to know of them) in the grand scheme of things and the melody that each and every "raved about" band has had.

Heavily requested bands that will not be available next year for U.S. shows:

1. Tarot- Marco will be touring with Nightwish all of 2008.

2. Pyramaze- With limited personal time available, the band's full focus will be on Europe in 2008 (specifically the festival circuit). You will not see them in the States until 2009.

This is disappointing news.

I'm guessing 3. But I'd add that I think it's more likely they'd be a 2, than a 4. Unfortunately, I doubt this is something Glenn would want to comment on, for business reasons. Or perhaps the reason they've never been here, is because they differ on slot and the money that comes with the slot.

Virgin Steele has been around exactly 25 years and are a 2.

Understood. My description of you as a fanboy was made in jest.

Than Pink Cream 69 has two more years to develop a killer live show... 'cause they were boring as f**k (and I really like PC69).

That's a mighty desirable post. I like that post. I think I'll quote it. And often. :headbang:

I'm 100% positive that I heard something about Rhapsody willing to work out a deal because they really liked the idea of Progpower. Not sure, I mean, you should totally look into that, Glenn.

 :p

The only way Rhapsody headlines ProgPower if it is moved to Philips Arena. If you look at Rhapsody's tour list, you will see they are in mostly arenas.

Virgin steele is in too low a slot as well, I feel. I think they're a solid 3 for this festival. I do agree that Maids would be closer to a 2 than a 4 only due to the lack of serious effort anyone has put into them re-entering the US market. Personally, I don't care where they'd land at PP because I feel in my heart that they'd be back a slot or 2 higher the next time. Why? I don't know, it's just a gut instinct (good business basis, right?).

As far as PC69, they don't count for the 20+ years for me because they have made a switch of singers along the way. It's like they have 2 careers and each very different. Were Andi Deris still the singer, I wager that we would have seen a remarkably more interesting show. David Readman is talented as hell, but he's just too clean and refined to put on a great show. That's my personal "clean singer" bias talking but I wasn't shocked at the mediocre performance.

Finally, I didn't even notice if you called me a fanboy. It was just a point I felt I had to make. Besides, how could I ever take offense to one of the only still-existing members of the U.S. Tyran Pace fanclub? :kickass:
