alexi said lots of times that the previous albuns were wannabe malmsteen, and its true also that the newest albuns are more own style and original so maybe its that

Sure, you can say that about SW, but for me HB and FTR are not even close to Yngwie.

Only thing, that's Malmsteen on SW is the solos and licks. Those riffs and melodies have nothing to do with Yngwie.

ok yes on second thought you guys are right, it doesnt. but still i heard alexi saying he think it is though

Wannabe Malmsteen? Fuck Malmsteen.

The reason Alexi says these negative things about the past albums is because he has to come up with something to defend the new, so he takes a negative approach, like I mentioned earlier. You can bring out only the positives or the negatives of the old or the new. If time turned backwards, he'd call the new Bodom a bunch of unoriginal thrash shit with no inspiration or depth.

It's painful to hear the negatives from Alexi towards his old art, like he's embarrassed about it, or persistently trying to tell (to himself?) he's more experienced today. Too bad the epicness comes from heart, not experience and "hard work."

New albums more original? What new is RRF? You've never heard anything similar, really? It's the basic everyday metalcore sound, that's what the fuss has been about since the start. They still do their thing better than most bands, but they sound unoriginal imo, and the music lacks surprises and depth now. For sure it's unfair to say old COB masterpieces were wannabe-Malmsteen, like the new Bodom is something nobody else has done. RRF is like the boring, messed up, less charismatic sibling of HCDR, who is only naturally good because of same genes.

Why can't you believe that Alexi prefers RRF than HCDR?? HIS music taste changes and that's fact- I used to like BFMV a lot- they were my fav band!! Now I love Kampfar. Laiho is a HUMAN BEING just like all of us here so his music taste changes, too.
RRF is not as bad as some ppl think- Shovel Knockout and Roundtrip To Hell And Back are not bad- actually I have SK on my phone and that means that this song is awesome (according to me).
Yep, they are not the same but pls tell me the names of the bands that are on stage as long as COB and never changed?? :) Do you know bands like them? Yeah, me neither.

ever played in a band? I've been playing together with a mate of mine for 7 years now (in 3 different bands) and our musical style has always changed. Not only when we formed a new band, also while being in a band.

When asked about his best/favourite recordings in the new Soundi-interview, he replied "Something Wild, Beware the Heavens, Hatecrew Deathroll and Relentless Reckless Forever." I don't think he's ever said, that Something Wild sucks, in fact I think he's always told he's proud of it.

On the money subject, I believe Alexi honestly wants to play the mallcore-stuff they do these days, and it's fine. Though IF he wanted to play SW-stuff again, he'd probably create another band/project for it, so he didn't have to worry about sales and how it affects COB's success or anything.

Well I think he said it was among the important releases/events. SW did 'sound' more like new Bodom anyway, it's just more weird and has better vocals. Inearthed was like a mix of all the old COB albums, but for sure Talking of the Trees and Homeland are something that share the atmosphere of FTR but even deeper.

Though IF he wanted to play SW-stuff again, he'd probably create another band/project for it, so he didn't have to worry about sales and how it affects COB's success or anything.

Well I think if he wanted to write that he'd surely accumulate those elements into the current Bodom and believe in it, he has to know how many fans have been crying for years to get it back. In that respect I think it feels like he's doing what he alone wants, even tho the older Bodom might actually mean more sales. I guess it depends, but for sure the thrashy style sells/sold better in the States. Now they're selling better in Canada. Why that is is hard to think.

Why should he give a fuck? I mean, they give him an awful lot of money to do whatever he is doing now and he doesn't care about what fans want. I don't think that he is doing the right thing but I totally understand- I'm not saying that money became priority, but what is the life without them? In fact, I have the feeling that Alexi Laiho and Tuomas Holopainen are the biggest music-junkies  - they can't live without it.

Firstly, all bands change, as do the personalities that drive them. They are not static entities.

Secondly, AYDY and BD fuckin rock! Yeh, less of the goth/atmospheric stuff and more thrash/groove metal orientated, but it's done well.

I don't know how AYDY can be classified a weak effort...Dead beat, AYDY, If you want peace, Punch Me, In Your Face, and Bastards of Bodom (probably my fav Bodom tune ever) are awesome songs

Same with Blooddrunk: Hellhounds, Blooddrunk, Lobodomy (another favourite), One Day, and Banned From Heaven (again another fav) are all classic.

Couldn't pick an answer because neither of those really work here.lol. What happened to COB was they didn't wanna be put into any ONE metal genre so they kept mixing it up. And now no other music sounds like bodom, because they kept changing it up, and they still do.

People are changing, so the music too. You can't expect from them to play one and the same things till death. And about the money... They alredy have a money, and I don't think they will let somebody to tell them what to play. Alexi always said - We do it because we like it. This is the ansver.
