why do you think minorities are less receptive towards extreme metal?

I like how no black people (as far as we know) are responding to this thread which proves the case in point.

we're reading it but not responding to it because responding to racisim and to racist, (which some of you are) isn't gonna make you change your racist views. i could be a graduate at any great college but you'll still view me as a stupid my pals. i am smart enought to know that you have every right to be a racist, you can call me what you want. but what you cant do is put your hands on me or cause me any bodily injury. and because of that i only associate with people who respect me as a human. i dont want you to not be a racist i want you to be who you are. at least i know where i stand with you, its the ones who say they are not racist to my face and call me a my pals when i leave the room, i dislike. and there are more black people than you would think who are into metal and you cant blame mtv for metal not being mainstream totally...because metal fans have this tendency to want metal to be their own and when a metal band becomes too commercial then they become sell-outs, so indie record lables have to market the music as underground metal to reach that core of listeners

I'm black, and I have only recently listened to any 'extreme metal', I think there is a very elitist attitude in extreme metal. Also it is very hard to find oneself being exposed to any metal music, especially if one is only exposed to whatever is on the radio or is focused on one genre. These days the media is focused on hip-hop music, which is what most people will hear and they accept it as a form of music which they can easily enjoy without having to have any grasp or appreciation for music, and it is very catchy etc... Also I think culturally some people are less receptive towards western music, especially classical, and they tend to gravitate towards more pallatable music styles and block out anything that has any elements similar to these music styles.

Additionally, the attitude in metal in general is almost completely opposed to the hip-hop attitude and is more centered around individualism. The common stereotype of metalheads is that they are barbaric, have horrible fashion sense and there is no females involved. Obviously this is not necessarily true :)

uhm there is alot of credence to the horrible fashion sense (not to mention there are not very many attractive women who listen to metal)

also - the childish, immature attitude of morons like scott evil doesn't really help metal at all either - neither does the racism associated with far too many metalheads

Yeah. And most metalheads are ugly and overweight--- what does that matter? We're just talking about women. Not whether they look good or not Jesus Christ you're an ass sometimes.

^Scorpio that's very mature of you, but I personally am not so forgiving. If a Black person is racist against me because I'm white I'll hate him back. If a white person is racist i'll think they're fucking idiots and try to change them.
I know most of us are all a little racist, but I think that is based mainly around ignorance and bad experience. I think we all deep down know that you can't hate an entire race of people...

You'll hate him back in a racist manner or just hatred for being racist against you? The former would be retarded.

Just hate him for being racist against all (or most) white people simply because they're white.

And you should know me better than that to even ask.

Hah....I just realized that this thread makes no sense. Since we are dealing with people from all countries there is no such thing as "minorities", as this term is only relevant in the US or such countries which are mostly caucasian, but completely irrelevant when speaking about people around the world.

Great!
And you should think about this great countrie that is South Africa, where caucasians are the minoritie. So, overthere, minorities are very keen to rock/metal stuff!

I'ved been in two South African towns, Joahnnesburg and Pretoria, and in a way there is a english cultural status on mainstream media focused in a target consumer with money. The majority of south africans aren't rich people, like in every others countries commun people aren't rich people. Black south africans in general also don't care about pop, metal, rock and so, they have them own music. Rock means nothing. Except for those who want to be updated with the world musical tendencies.

Here in Angola, it's the same.

African people hate African people a lot.

Well, can we guess that it was love the shame in ex-Yugoslavia nineties?
Can we guess that it was love the first and 2ºnd war in Europe?

Can we say that americans hate japanese because of Hiroshima/Nagasaky bombs?

I like stereo music, not stereotypes!
