One thing I just thought of. The more developed a country, or the higher the standard of living is, the more of a metal scene it has. Norway, Sweden, and Finland have the highest standards of living, even higher than the US. And among non-Eupean, non North American countries, the more developed countries have the bigger metal scenes. Japan has a huge metal scene, and is the most developed country in Asia. Brazil is the most developed country is South America, and has a huge metal scene. After South Africa, Botswana is the most developed country in Africa, and these two countries have the biggest metal scenes in Sub Saharan Africa.

Lets see, the Jews now have an entire country because of the Holocaust, African Americans obtain affirmative action and government, educational and medical benefits because of their history of slavery, Africa and developing countries gets billions of dollars in aid in foreign and UN assistance. Yes, they continue to languish in poverty partly because of European oppression, but formally children of oppressed heritage born into these countries have far better opportunities than common migrants have.

I was thinking mainly of Africa itself, not people of African descent livng in the US.

I'm saying I think the ex-colonial nations have an obligation that they frequently ignore, its hypocritical on a grand scale to benefit from oppression while endlessly bemoaning its evils without doing anything to redress the imbalance. I don't know nearly enough about imperial history to suggest a solution but I don't see people who suggest the decendents should in some way pay for the mistakes of the past as 'fucking stupid' any more than I think that about people who say everything is fine and nothing needs to be done.

Surely this is because these countries have more bands all together. Japan is going to have far more bands overall than a less developed Asian country like Laos or something, so their metal output will be greater as well.

I think the obvious reason for this is that a higher standard of living allows more people to spend on luxuries like musical instruments and lessons, and these things are much more readily available. I wonder how hard it is to get decent gear in a lot of countries. Apparently it's not that hard anywhere in Europe, or the majority of bands there are just people who came from rich families.
