Why Katatonia isn't "more" popular, is truly beyond me...?

I have owned Brave Murder Day for a very, VERY long time now and have listened to this awesome album countless of times. Sheer brilliance....

....but damn. I have just recently heard Teargas from Last Fair Deal Gone Down for the first time several weeks ago and I must say, Katatonia is a brilliant, BRILLIANT band. Moreso than ever! And, this is coming from someone who had deliberately tried to stay away from the newer albums for fearing the all-clean vocals would be severely lacking compared to the older style. Heh...man, was I ever wrong.

Shit, I am so glad I heard Teargas (which, at the time I heard it, was my favourite Katatonia song). As soon as I heard it, I ran out almost immediately to buy BOTH Fair Deal AND Viva Emptiness...and dammit, I tracked them down and I'm glad I did.

*_* These albums are incredible!!! I mean damn, they are just SOOO good and I just couldn't believe it. I'm going to go as far to say I definitely like them both better than BMD...the songs leave such a GREAT impact on me. And man, Jonas' clean vocals are simply amazing...the music is very dark, sad, powerful and emotional....man, everything I so WANT in my music.

What freaks me out is the fact there was a great chance I would never made myself listen to these tracks for some stupid reason, and miss out on some of the greatest songwriting in heavy music I have ever heard. :) I have a good friend to thank for that....

In fact, from the two albums...I have to list the tracks I seriously cannot stop listening to right now. I think these albums are the two I have played the most in such a short period of time...listened to them like 10 times each in two days....

LFDGD top5
1. The Future of Speech
2. Sweet Nurse
3. Teargas
4. Dispossesion
5. Passing Bird

VE top5
1. Evidence
2. Omerta
3. Complicity
4. Burn the Remembrance
5. Will I Arrive
*STUNNING intrumental at the end that concludes the album flawlessly MUST be mentioned...yes, Inside the City of Glass is a haunting masterpiece. Damn, I love those whispers....

...the amazing part is, that nearly ALL the tracks on both albums are filled with quality. So many....good...tracks.

Anyway, I HAD to share this with others. And, having heard Tool and Stabbing Westward, I feel Katatonia may closely be categorized with their style of music. Except, thing is...Katatonia is so remarkably superior to these more "popular" bands, where the previous two have just few good songs. Katatonia deserve to become more popular among other bands like Opeth and especially Anathema.

LFDGD is great! But Viva Emptiness is very different from it! Both are great but I like the latter more!

ACtually I really can't choose my top 5 from VE...
I'm just addicted to all the songs... (except Complicity :p)
all songs are great ...maybe I like the lyrics so much.. and it's a concept album.. can't dislike any of them (although I do..ha)

Although, if they were more "popular", every time I talked about them, people wouldn't go "oh oh I really like Katatonia they're really good", to which my reply is "...no, you really don't...you like Catatonia." I get so tired of that. Especially in record shops, I have to specify its with the K not the C!

Glad your enjoying two of the greatest albums ever written, I have just started listening to BMD and enjoying it, but it's definitely different, but has the same melancholic flourishes that now inhabit their music.

Don't forget the song "Tonight's Music" that is a damn masterpiece!!!

Katatonia is great. I'm happy they aren't mainstream either, because then you would be getting these Linkin Park fanatics listening to Katatonia for the wrong reasons. They can keep their mainstream. :D

I got that on the internet a few times, "Don't you mean Catatonia?" "Right..."

Well shit, if there's still someone out there that DOESN'T think Mikael did the vocals on BMD, I'd be surprised....too bad, though. Jonas had a gift in growling...the bonus tracks on BMD just prove how kick ass his vocals truly were. Anyway, Mikael does an excellent job (well hell, Opeth ARE my fave band....)

Anyway, I kind of feel like an idiot just choosing 5 from those albums...seriously, these albums are TOO incredible to begin comparing the songs to each other.

I heard two songs off of Tonight's Decision...sounds much like LFDGD. I assure you, this album is NEXT on my MUST-HAVE list. And to think, I should have bought these albums a long, LONG time ago.....unfortunate. But, at least I made it to this day now...and, shit. There's no going back.

And, I can see all of your point of views...yeah, it would kinda suck if Katatonia (not Catatonia, hehe...[sigh]) went mainstream, especially since the average music listener is full of shit. Most find out about their music through commercialism and advertising, we...US, look long and hard and find music that we like on our own. Where the TRUE MASTERPIECES lie. That is the difference between us and..."them."

BTW, yes...Tonight's Music is an awesome song. But, as much as I hate to say it, they ripped off Duran, Duran's Come Undone (excellent song by them, btw...only one I like.) :OMG: I was shocked...the intro is almost an exact, tune-for-tune melody. That's what kinda annoys me about this song...that's all....

I think Katatonia deserve to get some "real" or "commercial" success because of the sheer amount of time that Jonas and Anders devote to music. It all lies in the touring and more importantly, a North American tour can be very vital for the rise of Katatonia.

Then again though, it all comes down to really making the best business decisions as well...

Well considering that someone DID ask in a different topic and I put this in the wrong place, go ahead and be suprised.

And I'm sure there are MANY people that don't know this, especially people that only have the newer albums.

Why do people [not Alcapoth, other people in this topic] feel it's clever to be all "oooh, EEEEEEEEEEEVERYONE knows that - if you don't know that, you know NOTHING about anything, and we're SOOOO much better than you for knowing this one, small fact about the band" ?? It's VERY pathetic.

I don't think Katatonia should become popular for all mainstream scum to claim that they are their biggest fans for all of five minutes...then go and buy the new Linkin Park album after MTV have successfully ruined Katatonia...I just think they should get all of the perks for being fantastic :D

If you knew the fact about Mike, why the hell you wrote it down on here? Noone asked...
That's truly pathetic indeed...
