i recently lent a mate of mine a copy of last fair deal gone down, and the next day he came up to me and said:

"yeah theyre ok. kinda like linkin park with different vocals"

i nearly smacked him in the head

How you get Linkin Park from Katatonia I will never know....

I presume this is one of your 'non-music friend' friends?

Actually, this comparison is not as absurd as it seems.

All of Linkin Park's songs are about loss, bad relationships, etc. Gloomy and depressive with a nu-metal twist.

I know, but they both refer to the gloomier side of life. Linkin Park does it in a more superficial manner, but it's gloomy nonetheless.

with all do respect, why do some people lend their nu-metal friends some katatonia or opeth or whatever? I'm not gonna, they just wont understand it, they like nu-metal punk rock mtv bands and its gonna stay that way. one time I told my friend to download a song, and he wouldnt just because its 9 minutes. he was like "nah, i'll get bored of it if it's that long" "if it keeps changing, why dont they make it 2 or 3 different songs?" he was just too narrow-minded to ever listen to it. Katatonia is kind of accessible, but still, i don't really want my friends to listen to my stuff if they're that close minded, I know theyll just poke fun at it and say its wierd.

I can't agree with the previous statements. I think ALOT of metal fans started out as nu-metal fans. I think I've converted at least 6 nu-metal kids to actual metal fans.

agree with choking parasite - just because someone listens to one thing now doesnt mean they wont listent to something different later.

Linkin Park was my favorite band in 2000, I believe. Now my favorite 3 bands are Tool, Opeth, and Dream Theater. I also love Anathema, Arch Enemy, At the Gates, Katatonia, Edge of Sanity, Soilwork, Symphony X, Zao, Ayreon, hell even Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin. Trust me, you can convert people.
