Based on my JSX trials, if you feel there is too much fizz or 800-1kHz in the tone then try the 6L6's. If neither of those is an issue you may just take what you like about the amp away from it.
I knew this pic was familiar - off the Melband forum? Nice price! I was actually thinking about buying that myself, but settled on one of these as I don't need a fancy amp due to me being pisspoor as a player:
For well under AUD$900 bucks second hand, pretty happy with the price.

This thing is ÜBER-nice with it's gain at around 8 o'clock! Starts focusing things and adding some additional growl. Great overdrive pedal!

Seems like a great deal you got there, but you do realize that the Blackmore is even more bare bones than the 6505+, right?

I wouldn't doubt it. For 1996, $100 + a drive to Atlanta it was well worth it. Its heavy as balls and has WAYYYY too much gain (I run input on 3.6 dB and output on 9.6 dB and it's still a little too much). Very easy to get a tone somewhat like "Frozen Angel" by Norther...well their whole N album. They used the 2112 on that album.
