It has been 5 years already since this happened ... time flies!
What really changed?

One thing, I have really come to distrust the US Gov't ... this was the biggest for me.

There are a bunch of activists making a big fuss over by the WTC site for the last week already ... some more info about their agenda:

Let's see...

Bush has made us pariahs to the world. He's managed to take all the international good will which had been extended to us post-9/11 and turn it to fear and hatred. Our debt has escalated. The gap between wealthy and poor has grown substantially. American soldiers and Iraqi civilians continue to die. However, the oil companies are reporting record profits. So all in all, from a Republican perspective, it's been a good five years.

things changed for the worse, sure. my wife is now a high school teacher and some of the "protective" things they've started post 9/11 make me laugh.

at the same time, people have pretty much forgotten. we'll be talking about croc hunter going down for years, but those 3000 that died...meh.

the show Rescue Me said it best:

Denis Leary's character talking to a bunch of yuppies at a bar in NY: "I'll bet all of you can name at least one finalist on American Idol the last couple of years, but can't name one firefighter (out of 150 or so) that died bravely on 9/11".

I watched a documentary the other night about the firefighters who survived the collapse in the stairway
facinating and terrifying
especially since they didn't find a single trace of over 1000 of the victims who died

Excellent quote. I think every American should ask themselves three questions that day: 1. "Where is Bin Laden (or whoever you believe coordinated it)?" 2. "Why haven't we made any real progress in rebuilding Ground Zero?" 3. "How much did the government know?"

"Why haven't we made any real progress in rebuilding Ground Zero?"

yeah, let's face it rebuilding it is not profitable. not many companies will move into that building ... ever.

WTC 7, a smaller building across the street that also collapsed, was rebuilt completely by last year ... its mostly empty as they cannot find major tenants.

You have to realize that these skyscraper landlords cannot look for small co's to rent 2000sq ft or 1/5 of each floor ... they need multi national corporations that can rent 3-4 floors at a time ...

and no major co. will put their employees at risk. not to mention that nobody really "needs" to be located in that area anymore. You can be across the river on the Jersey waterfront for half the rent and be worry free.

One thing that has come out of 9/11 is the incessant use of the word Terrorist. I have heard that word far too many times since the attacks.
