9/11

what's amazing about the place is that even though there are thousands of people walking around even late at night ... there is this peace and quiet ...
the place really is like a graveyard ... and as much as I want to see something rebuilt there ... I don't know ... its a weird place to be.

new yorkers are going about it exactly the right way. the wonks who run the TV networks think showing the towers collapsing several dozen times is honoring the dead. fuck that!! that's like watching a video of your dead kid getting hit by a bus every year on his birthday.
bahahaha, i'm even worse for thinking that's so funny than you are for saying it

they showed clips on the news here even, a couple were closer-up shots where you could clearly see people jumping...i don't think they tend to show those in the US do they?

Wow. That's the first time I've ever really seen something that puts into perspective just how many people lost their lives on 9/11. Just, wow.

I saw a bit of Frontline last night and they showed some pics of people jumping. I changed the channel when I realized the episode was all about religion somehow.

That one pic of the towers above the cloudline kicks my dick in. Do you think it was possible to go up on the roof on a day like that? Probably not, I guess, but I've never been in a skyscraper and don't really know

of course you could ... there were businesses all the way to the top of the tower.

the WTC did not have roof access to visitors for a long time, even before 9/11, but you could go up to the bar/restaurant on the top floor and oogle.

I mean, could you be sitting in your office and just go, "Hey, Bob, wanna go up to the roof and smoke?" and you'd just walk up a flight of stairs and there'd be maybe three other people up there. Or was it like a madhouse at all times? Basically, could you go up on the roof and enjoy a peaceful moment staring at the sky above the clouds?

actually not, there was no roof access for workers in the building to go smoke. I know this for a fact as friend used to work for Fuji Bank which was on the higher floors and they actually built a smoking room for employees (which were mostly Japanese and chain smokers) ... as taking the elevator down and back up for just for a smoke was a 20 minute ordeal.

The Empire State building was always the more popular tourist destination for "going up to the top" ... better views all around from the Empire State.

there's really no other way to build in NYC than straight up. Not to state the obvious, but you don't seem like you're joking

Having been there only once, I don't know what to tell you except that I agree that NY (and LA and Chicago) are so obscenely huge they make me ill.

cool

we've been through this before and it turns into a stupid flamewar when all the NYC dudes enter the discussion but REALLY large cities are fucking dumb with very few benefits for the individual living in them
