Alec's Tavern : The Frost Blast

Oh, WTF? When I've been to Italy, Alcohol seemed pretty cheap to me. Not in pubs, though, but in stores.

i was speaking of pubs. the average price for a medium beer is 5-6 €. :yuk:
in stores, it depends. from 50 cents to 3 €, from beer to beer there's a lot of difference of price. i usually buy weisse beer, like kapuziner or franziskaner, 'cause it's quite rare to find a pub where they have weisse beer and i like it very much, in stores it usually costs from 1.20 to 1.50 € each bottle (50 cl).

Hehe well you do have to read them before you delete them it's not like the title was "Try 100% free viagra" :lol". Should I send it again, then?

I found it and replied already.
In spite of the title :p
Notice the "für" ;) . Yes, even small supermarkets had a lot of soda pop in Sweden hehe.
Hehe. That frequently happens to me. Aswell as writing "und" instead of "and" and "ist" instead of "is"

That's ok for imported beer. But spirits seemed to be way cheaper to me in Italy.

And you have that crazy beer called "Birra dalla storia" with pictures of Mussolini, Hitler or Che Guevara on it %D

are you saying that italian beer is cheaper?
maybe it is, but remember that we have an heavy wine-culture, so during meals we don't usually drink beer, but wine. the most probable food that we can accompany together with beer is pizza. i think that's why. beer is usually drunk in pubs (and very often not italian beer), while wine at home (or at the restaurant). i'm not saying that it's a universal law, but it usually works this way :)

no, I was saying that sprits, hard alcohol, is way cheaper ;)

ahhh okey
i usually don't drink it, first i don't like the taste of all kinds of strong alcohol and second i don't drink to get drunk but because i like to drink...well sometimes it's happens that i get drunk, that's true, but it isn't the initial goal
the only hard drinks i'm able to drink are:
some kind of rums and vodka, whiskey cream, mirto (a very good and sweet italian liqueur) and in general spirits made with herbs.
we have a nice drink called Limoncello, which means "little lemon" , we usually drink it after meals, cause it's digestive. in fact it's called also "ammazzacaffe" "coffekiller" cause it's usually taken after the coffe to delete its taste and leave a fresh sensation in your mouth.
it's pretty sweet because it's made with lemon and sugar, and the gradation may vary being often homemade.

i've a question for you :)
which is the difference between met and honigwein?
i mean, i've tasted mead and i know that is made only by the fermentation of honey, some friends of mine did it and came out pretty good.
but the honigwein? wein means wine, is it made adding some grape?

I had that in mind when I wrote about alcohol in Italy. Limoncello was quite cheap and very delicious.

But one thing blew my mind: In almost every supermarket you can buy almost pure (96%) alcohol for just 11€ or something. The label said that it's for combining it with juice to make drinks/cocktails/etc. Is it a common thing in Italy to buy this stuff and to make your own drinks? And isn't it a big problem concerning (homeless) alcoholics and teenagers?

I'm pretty sure they're the same thing, just two different names for it.

That's right.

Standing alone the term "Wein" is the usual wine. But there is also Fruchtwein (wine made of fruits like strawberry, raspberry, etc.) and just "Honigwein"/"Met". It's just made the same way as normal wine.

no. i never did that, if i have to be honest i don't even know of what you're speaking exactly. never noticed it , do you mean pure alcohol without any taste?
as i told you before, i'm not a big consumer of high gradation drinks.
if you wanna drink at home you drink beer, or wine, or sometimes some harder spirits, like you know vodka, or grappa, which is more or less the italian version of aquavit, maybe were you speaking of that?
well, a new law forbids to people under 16 years to buy alcohol. the law is quite new so now there're a lot of checks in supermarkets, bars, and pubs. but i'm sure this will change, i mean, we're in italy  how long do you think this law will be respected?
i think they did it because they noticed an increasing of alcohol use between young people. but it's not so serious in my opinion, we don't have a heavy drinking culture like in the north. we drink during meals mostly, we like the quality above all, it's better to drink a bottle less but of a better quality, than more bottles of an horrible beer or wine. that's mostly our point of view. we don't drink just to drink and get drunk but for the pleasure itself of drinking and to taste what we have in our glasses :)

It's a new law? Here it is forbidden for like... forever. But noone really gives a damn. Ok, in supermarkets you won't get any alcohol so easily when you're under 16/18 but in kiosks it's no problem most of the times.

The drinking culture up here is different, that's right. Especially among young people drinking just to get drunk is considered very cool. And to be honest, I cannot negate that I don't just wanna be drunk every now and then ;)

And the more you go north the more depressive people get and tend to abuse alcohol. I suppose that's one of the reasons why alcoholic drinks are so bloody expensive in Scandinavia!

On an off note, they apparently still brew mead here in Uppsala in the "old way," whatever that means. I need to try it.

That means that it will give the producer more cash :p
No, seriously: Maybe it's fermented with traditional (or just old(-fashioned)) apparatus.

 My thoughts exactly. But it comes highly recommended, so I'd better try it.

Yeah, I'd like to know how it's done. That way i could get me a drinking horn and some good ol' fashioned mead. Then all I need is the boat, a sword and some buddies.... And then it's off to England!!

yes, it's new. but there's a trick, you cannot buy it, but you can consume it

http://www.ehow.com/about_5113750_italian-drinking-laws.html

as i've said before, now there are a lot of controls, but in a year or two they will surely end up.
as for smoke in public areas.
but i've to strike a bow for us (who are notoriously not law-followers), since the law was approved no one smoked in public places anymore, even if not so many controls were made.
and as a smoker, i can say that i feel better :)
you don't enter foggy pubs anymore , and you don't go back home stinking as you were roasted on the barbecue :yuk:

we have a typical popular phrase that says : predicare bene e razzolare male.
a word to word translation is : to preach well and to scratch about bad (scratch as chickens) , is mainly used when someone do not practice what he has preached before.

well...i've to admit that i'm definetely drunk

Yeah, there were some problems in Roma of some guys bothering tourists. Hehe but yea, I doubt that law will be respected for a long time :p . It should've been there from before. Is the mafia guy, excuse me, president, doing something?

Yes, it's been like that here for… well always. But teens always get a way to get drinks, IMO there is no real control. I remember been 15 and going to the stupid parties of the popular guys/gals at school, and smoking and drinking, just like most people. Heck, the first time I got drunk was in a party in front of my house  . I was like 15/16, and since I wasn't really invited to parties I didn't know how to drink. Lesson: Don't drink almost an entire bottle of Cuban rum (Havana Club) without eating anythin and in half an hour!!!

Damn I smell rum nowadays and get all nauseous. That day I was vomiting the whole time. It was very "funny", I tried to go up the stairs to my room (which is in the 2nd floor of the house), got all dizzy and said "oh I better sit down" (in Spanish), and my mum was saying: "Daniel, are you drunk?!?" And this really happened, I said "no mum I'm fi*vomits twice on the couch and the living room* :puke::puke:.

 hahahaha oh but it was terrible, that was Saturday around 22, and I was still vomiting on Sunday at 17 hours. How the fuck didn't I end up in the hospital?

Anyhow, it's true that the further north you get the more people drink. Obviously it helps to get warm, but many people really become addicted. For example, Finland has a lot of problem with alcoholics and people getting killed because they drive after they drink, just like in Costa Rica. But most people here do it because they're drunks and irresponsible, I hate the Costa Rican drinking culture. Most people here don't drink to enjoy the Jäger or the bier or whatever, but to get all fucked up and see who'll be more drunk in the end; on the way killing innocent people on the roads.

It depends on where you go, but there're really a lot of drunks here, especially in San José (capital). It's very sad to see kids (ca. 14) opening the door of your cab, smelling like shit and alcohol and looking like shit, asking for money to buy more alcohol. I always say no and just give them some cookies. It's very sad.

naaaa, he's loosing his time looking himself in the mirror and saying shits like
"i've beaten the world record for the recostruction in L'Aquila" (the city that were destroyed by the earthquake)
"i'm the best president of the last 150 years"
and so on :ill:
i really feel embarassed for him :erk:
i really feel embarassed of being italian sometimes

now the law is respected, but i think it will depend from people's good will in the future.
no controls will be done after the first few months (as it happens with everything, smoke, new driving rules, and so on).
if people will respect the law it will be only for their will-power. if they consider it important and healty, like the prohibition of smoking in public areas, i'm sure they will respect it.

speaking of shame.
this is one of the reasons for which i really feel the shame for being italian.
a mafia's repenant revealed that years ago the mafia paid for some ships to be sunken with explosive in the mediterrean sea. the really heavy problem is that those ships contains radioactive wastes and they are lying there, under the sea, for so many years. this was made to bypass some laws about dangerous wastes and some industries paid fucking big amounts of money to the mafia to do this.
the thing that makes me think is: you're a fucking stupid terrorist or whatever you can be called, you want to rule your city, your family, your world. i can also don't care, you're not disturbing me and my folk. but this way, you're destroying nature and one of the most beautiful goods we have, the sea.
it seems like 32 of those ships are sleeping in our sea. :erk::ill::yuk:

Yeah, there's a lot of shit going on in Italy, for example the usage of the military police (carabinieri) as part of the normal police. I mean: An army must not be active inside the country!

Berlosconi seems to be the first president of Italy that hasn't been dropped for like 60 years! But even that somehow scares me.

Italy is such a beautiful country with a lot of nice people but on the other hand there's this Berlusconi controlling all the media and dealing with the mafia...

And regarding the laws: In most parts of Germany it is now forbidden to smoke inside pubs, restaurants, etc. except they have a seperated room for smokers. But in my state it is still allowed in pubs as long as they proclaim themselves as a "Raucherclub" (smoker's club). If you wanna enter you have to leave a signature that it's ok for you that people are smoking and then everything's fine %D
But the police (or more exactly the "Ordnungsamt" — semi-police without weapons that check if everythings fine) doesn't control pubs anyway so some inkeepers of pubs just don't give a shit. ;)

:D I was on my way there, but then I got distracted by the new Rammstein video.. Thems some funny and crazy cats. [If you don't want to look at porn (this is not an exaggeration), do not look at this link: http://visit-x.net/rammstein/]

Haha, I saw it, too, yesterday and it kind of amused me  So rock music finally competes against hip-hop when it comes to porn music videos!

But the lyrics are... well, obviously they are made for non-German speaking fans of that band (just like "Amerika"). "Sauerkraut", "Bratwurst", "Blitzkrieg" — I mean... come on!

Hahaha, how the heck did Berlusconi come to be president? I guess he bought the votes, because as some Italians have told me, he's quite related to the mafia. But what do I know. Lefay, I think that sometimes everyone feels embarrassed of his/her country, it happens to me all the time. I know that Italia is a special case in Europe, being "underdeveloped" in compared to other countries. I don't understand the passion you have for your country to be honest, but it's something you should always feel proud of.

It's funny because my gal wants to get the Italian nationality :p . Even funnier is how she gets when I say to her: "Tutti sei viglio di putana". Obviously I'm just bothering her hehe, I love how she gets mad . Then again, if I told that to her mother, the latter would probably punch me.

I didn't know that stuff about the ships, can you post some links? It's quite sad, it hurst me, being the eco freak I've always been, long before it became a fashion (Captain Planet!). Anyhow, it's interesting that this happens a lot in Europe: Big mess = big company to cover it up = big money = biggest problem when people find out. It's like when some company in Germany was accused of basically burring a bunch of computers in an African country, instead of recycling them like they were supposed to. Maybe someone knows exactly what happened?

Hehe I wouldn't say it's a "decent" story, but well it's certainly funny :p. Oh yes it was certainly a lesson for life, I haven't been drunk since then. Once was enough, the trauma was truly horrible; I get a bit nauseous just by thinking about it.

Wow I didn't know Italy had its army active within their country! Yea, Berlusconi is really special ;) .

They're trying to implement the smoking laws here like in Deutschland, but to no avail. Those laws do have a lot of support though, they have mine :p .

 I just heard the song.

Rammstein: Destroying the division between Hip-hop and Metal, one song at the time.
