Alec's Tavern : The Frost Blast

The closest place it is playing here, is like three hours away. Which, I suppose isn't bad - but since I work 10 or sometimes 12 hours a day, almost everyday, there is no time for me. But, I did, however, buy the Flight 666 T-shirt at Hot Topic. Hehe. It's a badass T-shirt.
The reviews that I've read about it, it sounds like an awesome film. And the Anvil film as well! Another one I would love to see.
Samuel Dunn, who made "Metal: A Headbangers Journey" also made another film alike to it, called: "Global Metal". Where he travels around the world in search for Metal by cultures. It's not as good and the Headbangers Journey, but pretty interesting at the same time.
 
I'll gladly recommend Flight 666 to anyone who bothers to listen (though I think that is pretty apparent by now). Seeing Chemical Wedding tonight, know it isn't the same sort of film, but I am still looking forward to it and have high hopes. I like CPH:PIX, ok prices for the more unusual films...

they play quite near, about 4 hour of car back and then...it's always a big happening when a group comes play in my region (they usually play in the north of italy, i think it's more convenient for them to remain near the borders, near to austria and germany)
anyway someone ventures also in the centre of the country :lol:

last weekend i went with some friends to see the ruins of an old monastery built on the top of a mountain called RupeCava which means hollow montain, and in the middle of a beautiful wild wood.
was really a beautiful place, it was a pagan place before church came and ruined all, where people made rites and orgies in the name of the pagan gods Pan and Dioniso. the monastery was build up nearly 1200 and an eremit lived there till the middle of 1800. then it was sadly left to rot.
the most beatiful thing is that some praying rooms are inside the mountain, into caves.

While I can't attend the gig, I wonder if there's a little chance of to have it released on DVD or at least, a good recorded bootleg. Also I wonder if on the setlist will be included something at least from Kveldsjanger (I'm pretty sure the songs played will be just their electroambient stuff, but to have a HQ video with something like Kledt I Nattens Farger, would be one of my dreams came true - even more something like I Troldskog Faren Vild, but that's ask too much).

i had never seen the new line-up and only when they got on the stage i realized that tony choy was their new bassist :D
there were a lot of people, even if i must say that the place is very little, and it's easy to have a full audience in there.
Mameli was very happy to be back in italy and spoke half time in italian, saying Porcoddio every three words (porcoddio is a swear word, means god is a swine, we really love swear words :P)
in the second part of the concert i conquered the first line, and sat down directly on the stage, i love small concerts 'cause there's no real division between groups and fans, and had my photos as i wished, and got also the setlist :blush:

Gonna give a little battle report...

I was at the Enslaved / Opeth show in New Jersey last night (May 1st, Starland Ballroom). For those of you who were there, I was the spritely dirty blonde standing behind the main sound gear wearing a Vertebrae hoodie (it had the best view in the place, other than the front and up at the bar). For some reason there was an odd combination of fat guys, teenage hipsters with their girlfriends, and regular metalheads at the venue.

Enslaved opened, and their first three songs had huge sound problems. Enslaved's one of my favorite bands ever, so I was digging the show, but their sound guy was frantically moving around dials and levers trying to fix whatever the fuck went wrong. To make matters worse, you couldn't hear the lead guitarist, and the lead guitarist himself tried to fix the sound from the amp on the stage. I know... sometimes guitarists do stuff with their amp, but in this case it was a running battle. This was their set list, like, literally. Their sound guy gave me his copy at the end of their set:

NO EXTRAS (I'm assuming this means Enslaved doesn't get to do any encores)

The first couple of songs, up to As Fire Swept Clean The Earth, were really a wash. You couldn't hear very much except the drums and some guitar, and it felt loud in a bad way. Fire went as badly as possible, with the guitarist finagling his amp, the sound guy trying to fix it, resulting in some feedback and a huge whomp from the bass. Once they hit Ground the band got its shit together and at least the last three songs were pretty amazing, especially Isa. They only played six songs, though! =( Enslaved needs to add Return to Yggdrasil and maybe one of their oldies to that set!

Opeth was... wow. I hadn't been to a show where a band gave their everything like that in a long, long time. They were SO GOOD. If you're not a fan of their last three albums, yet you've never seen them live, that's really the antidote for "getting" their newer sound. The intensity and heaviness that is perhaps not captured on their albums simply kicks your ass live. Closure had what seemed like an eternity of just Opeth jamming on stage added to it, and the crowd was basically in disbelief at the band's sonic assault on them. I think we earned ourselves Deliverance as an encore, although Opeth may have just done the whole "walk offstage and come back to rev up the crowd for the real last song" act. Akerfelt likes to talk to the crowd, also... every time there was a pause between songs, he would give the crowd music advice and make cracks about NJ / Bon Jovi. And he called himself cocksucker. At least he claims he has a jacket that says as much on the back. Their sound, overall, was excellent. Opeth simply oozes musicianship.

All in all, great show. If Enslaved gets their sound together for the rest of the tour (it was the first show of the tour), it will be one of the best venues this year. Highly recommend.

Actually we do, called "Love of Live", but it kinda died a long time ago so I don't blame you for not using it. :p

Anyway, good idea with the review, sounds like a good night. I'm no big Opeth fan myself, but I know many who are so I do see them occasionally on festivals and such...
 
Bad thing the Enslaved troubles, the setlist was very short and just new songs. They must play at least Eit Auga Til Mimir or something like that.

The Opeth setlist was the same lame one that they played here past month. (I'm not a Opeth fan at all, but I enjoy til some extent a decent amount of their repertoire).
The only really great song played imo was godhead's (Lepper and Deliverance are not bad songs, tho). No april, no when, no Demon of the fall, no The Moor, no Drapery...at least they play live well.
 
i have gone to see Folkstone yesterday night (and now i'm at work after 4 hours of sleep :zombie:). they are a folk band from the north of italy, i should say they are the italian version of in extremo :lol:, they also played the norwegian traditional song villeman og magnihild, like in extremo did.
i usually don't listen to italian metal music, but they are very funny and amusing, and there're not so many folk bands in here, but nearly all sing in english, while folkstone sings in italian.
it was an amazing show (if i'm able to forget the support band which massacrated a lot of bands i like, doing covers of amon amarth, finntroll, ensiferum, at one point i started to shout "no please, don't play vintersorg, please" and they fortunatly didn't), unfortunatly the arpist girl wasn't there, but they did supply to this with a lot of other instruments like bagpipes and bombards

i've found a video of the band on youtube :)

Has this song anything to do with the 'Carmina Burana'?

I used to be a big In Extremo fan but they changed and I still can only listen to their records until "Sünder ohne Zügel". They changed in a way I don't like... :/
But I am tired of all those bagpiping stuff. You have to see: In Germany renaissance faires are incredibly popular (though not very authentic :p) and I enjoy visiting them, too. BUT: There are SO MANY of those bagpipe + drums bands out there. Omfg. And they all sound the same and all play the same 'traditional' songs (I suppose a lot is balkan stuff, but I'm not quite sure). That really bores me. Lude + singing would be far more realistic, but tell them...
