who prefers the sound of drums in studio videos?


I always watch studio diaries etc and the when they're tracking drums they seem to sound MUCH fatter than they do on the actual records, anybody else get this?

Prime example: the drums in this video from 1:48 onwards sound larger than life, but not so much on the final record (although the mix is still awesome).

Maybe because the camera mic is picking up the sound from the monitors as well as the actual kit, and the drums arent processed?

Drums sound cool on their own.... less so when they have to be tamed to benefit the mix.

Good points, most cameras tend to really severely compress audio when recording too which probably plays a part.

almost anything sounds great soloed out or on its own ... its when you have to dump layers of shit on top of it and still make everything work that you have to find ways of reducing the size

its pretty genre specific too
