Are there any female opeth fans

Well, that's me. I don't know any girls or women that are into metal so I wouldn't be able to say if they are "normal" or not. However, I also don't have ANY girlfriends :confused: I do have a couple boyfriends and I can say that they are not into metal and one especially can't stand it when I throw on some Arch Enemy or Opeth.

Anyways, my point is that generalisations are dangerous and when people make them it means there is some underlying issue with THAT person. Maybe NFU had some bad experiences with a certain type of girl and now places those traits on all women? Whatever the case may be I doubt it's true that all women who listen to metal are "damaged goods". Good way to put it by the way, not offensive or nauseating at all.

wow, you should live here and be friends with me. other than the riding horses part, which i used to do in grade school, everything you said about yourself is true about me too.

most people would never guess that I even like anything close to metal. Im quiet, dress like a normal human being (jeans, sweatshirt, repeat), dont drink/do drugs, Im getting a 4.0 gpa in college, my favorite Opeth album is Still Life or Morningrise, Damnation is probably my least favorite, i have no tattoos/peircings (not even my ears), small and attractive,and my boyfriend is a hippie. I dont think Im anything like some of your guys' stereotypes. *shrug*

Carbondale. Lisle is pretty far... Im goin to see Opeth at the Kentucky show, are you?! because you should.
 
Holy crap! Carbondale is damn far! It must be way down south. Although I was pretty close to there when I rented some horses and stayed in a lodge on vacation in October. No I'm not going to the Kentucky show, I'm going to the "An Evening With Opeth" at the House of Blues in March :rock:

I think if you guys knew more females who were "true" metal fans, your opinions would change a bit. But it seems like many of girls at metal shows are either their with their boyfriends, or just want to be associated with the people that go to those shows. sure theres going to be some messed up folks, but theres just as many guys with the same issues into metal. its just not as obvious, and more acceptable.

I was thinking of going up to chicago for that show, but for one - I dont have much money, and its a 7 hour drive there and back from Carbondale. Im originally from Cary, if you know where that is. (45 NW of Chicago)

I know there are loads of women/girls that don't fit into the stereotype mentioned (especially in Sweden, but I guess we've established that Sweden is special or something :loco: ).

Could it be that some of the guys here generalize because the only women they know listen to metal are the ones advertising it, while there's a bunch of "normal" women that like metal, but don't advertise about it, so the guys never actually know there are women like you out there? (did that make sense?)

yea, that makes sense. Every so often Ill wear a band shirt, but other than that.. there would be no way someone would be able to tell that I listen to metal. So theres probably other girls out there the same way, but you dont know until you ask. Though, I still havent met any other girls that are into the same music as I am.
 
Yeah, I'm totally not discounting that there's some very normal girls out there into metal (and by normal I mean, at the very least, more sane than the guys). I've just yet to see any around here, or at gigs... or anywhere really. Maybe they just keep to themselves, or keep their music prefferences hidden.

I think it gets a bit stupid to throw a huge blanket statement out there saying that ALL metal girls out there are somehow mentally damaged and listen to metal for superficial reasons, based off the limited number of girls that one person knows.
 
Exactly. I had a normal childhood, I don't think I'm ugly, and I love life. I have long hair but that doesn't scream "metalhead" either as I'm a chick. I think you could pass a lot of us on the street and not realize what we listened to. Case in point: I wore an Opeth shirt to my English class one day, and the girl next to me was like, "Wow, you listen to them too? I love Opeth!" I'd never have guessed it from looking at her.

I actually think that metal fans are better than any of the other "extreme" music genres - punk, goth, etc. - at blending into the mainstream when they so choose.
 
Holy shit there are actually girls out there like Marin and Lightning in the real world...Too bad I'll never be able to point them out because they keep that fact (that they listen to metal) to themselves both physically and verbally. :(
