Are Tool worth a damn?

Tool are pretty good.I like the Aenimia cd and some of their other songs,though the stuff from Lateralus is really overplayed on the radio and I've gotten to detest those songs.I'm going to see them in concert this August and I can't wait because I heard they are great live(I've also heard some other opinions,but I'll judge for myself).
If I had to decide who was better-Opeth or Tool-then I'd definatley go w/Opeth,though.

Lateralus and Aenima are rather enjoyable albums and NOT in anyway referrable to nu metal. I'm not sure if they are even METAL.

Tool is great and is definitely not nu-metal. And they have evolved. Play Opiate (or Undertow) and Lateralus right next to eachother. If you don't notice a completely different sound in the latter then you're deaf.

Personally I love the direction they are going in with Lateralus and it's easily my favourite Tool album.

They are my favorite band so I would have to vote yes they rock! They are also incredible live and to call them nu-metal is ridiculous considering 1)they do not rap 2)they can write a song without the same two note riff played over and over and 3) Maynard has an absolutely wonderful voice and this band deserves every ounce of credit they get and more! My two favorite bands are Tool and Opeth and I would LOVE to see them tour together although I highly doubt that will ever happen! But they did take Meshugga out so.......

Tool are among most long standing favourites and although I listen to them only occasionally now, songs like "Reflection" from Lateralus never cease to get my blood pumping...Who else is writing songs like this and getting so much consistent mainstream attention? They are a great band.

Also, amongst other things the vision and execution is truly artistic so I wouldn't class these guys as nu metal. I 2nd - Carey is a god!

So YES they are worth more than a damn!

Fascinating... so Nu Metal must have Rapping, 2 note repeated riffs, and bad vocals? Have you HEARD Sevendust, Haji's Kitchen, or Puya? no? Don't over generalize. Assumption is the mother of all fuck ups. (yes i realize i assumed you hadn't heard those bands, but even if you have your statements tell me you didn't listen with an open ear) i am so sick of the "nu metal is shit" thing.

Tool is an excellent band.. You should give them a chance, even the hardest of the hardcore metal heads give Tool the respect they deserve... You simply cannot look past the talent in that band.

tool is the most amazing band out there right now and are probably the only mainstream band worth your time. absolutely amazing stuff, i would label it as progressive hard rock or something in that vein. they kinda remind me of a heavier pink floyd, and obviously sound alot more modern. they play alot of weird time signatures, their drummer has to be my fav. of all time, maynard is the most incredible rock/metal vocalist i have ever heard(listen to a perfect circle), the bass stands out and plays its own thing most of the time and is often the lead instrument, and the guitarist has a knack for coming up with the most memorable riffs and sounds. anybody out there who is convinced they suck because they are mainstream should definitely check them out trust me they are worth it. they are no nu metal band that is for sure. somewhat similar to opeth(not sound wise) in that they create strange moods in songs and like to go between softer and harder moments, not to mention both these bands are progressive as fuck and dont stick to a verse chorus formula. my personal favorite song is eulogy (look at my sig.) if someone is looking to download a song.

I like tool, but I don't think those who don't like tool should have to explain themselves...

Please! Tool has nothing to do with that crappy nu metal scene. I would describe them as Pink Floyd for the 21:st century. They deserve all respect they can get. But personally I´m no bigger fan of them, even though I respect them.

I'm not too bothered about Tool. First load of stuff they did as cool, nowadays I've lost track.

They were around well before the whole korn thing and such as well, so I wouldn't lump them in with that lot. THey've always been different, still cool and all,

but they don't annoy me or excite me that much...

the song might sound like it's totally riff based but for me it travels and slightly changes and you turn around and find yourself in a different place than when the song started (maybe cheezy phrasing but I believe I'm getting my point through)

and anyone who likes Tool sucks?!?

No they don't, but when someone says that they hate them, they sucks and things like that I would be happy to get a explenation why. But I accept if someone dosn't like thier music, everyone have their own taste...I just think that it's "bad behavior" to say such things about a band like Tool.
