ARIZONA RACISM

Ok. So this idea that I have where cops are going to go ID crazy is wrong? Just asking. You're saying cops will not go around asking everyone who they think might be breaking the law for their ID? In other words, how does the cop know for sure the mexican is illegal without first asking for the ID? I'm just asking for clarification as I haven't read the bill.

That is correct and where the large chunk of misinformation is coming from about this bill.

The cop doesn't know if the person is legal/illegal at first -- because they have to break a law in the first place for them to come into contact with the police. The police at that point THEN can ask for ID/papers/greencard/etc IF the original person did something illegal. This was actually pretty unclear in the first bill, and was then clearified in an ammendment to the original bill.

The above is a paper article that states the changes around the bill. Like I said, a section of the bill even states that if you break "city ordinances" that they can ask for ID...I don't have a problem with this either.

So, if they are like you, and makes friends with a store owner, don't travel, or don't break any laws, they have nothing to worry about.

This shit is so stupid. Fucking media et al have construed this shit beyond what it actually is.

The bill is nothing more than what the federal authorities have already had in place before this shit with Arizona ever came about - nobody was up in arms crying about that were they? The feds just hardly ever exercised it. Arizona wanted this bill so their state authorities WOULD be enforcing it - AFTER an individual gets detained for OTHER reasons. The bill is not saying cops in Arizona need to pull over any fucking Mexican they see to make sure they are legal, not by a fucking longshot.

I personally am all fucking for this shit. Illegals do not pay taxes and selfishly take advantage of welfare, healthcare and education that is provided by tax dollars for those that need it. Leeches.

I have no god damn problem with Mexicans coming over here to do whatever the fuck it is they can't do in Mexico - BUT they need to become a legitimate citizen of this country and be a team player.

The most retarded shit about it is they come over here and employers provide unsafe working environments, pay them shit and don't give a fuck because the illegals can't run to OSHA, police or anyone about it - because they are illegal immigrants. If they became fucking citizens then they can make minimum wage or more and have a safer job. Why not become a citizen? Why is it so fucking hard?

I agree 100%.

fucking hard

you have to live 4 years in the states, and learn the national anthem to become resident only. I know friends and relatives who have been working for over 10 years, paying taxes and their citizenship gets revoked every time they submit it, just because you had a parking ticket, or because you own a dog, or because you're ugly. Stupid excuses they come up with.

becoming a US citizen is HARD!

I know there's a lot of freaking beaners getting involved in gangs and crap like that, and im not proud of that...that pisses me off!! but there's lots of people who migrate to the US to "have a better life" when they actually don't, they work more, and get less. But you know what they say...it's "the American Dream" which i truly believe it doesn't exist anymore.

This past 2 years, people that migrated to the US are now coming back, there's no jobs like there just to, and the economy in the US is not as good as it used to be so people now are hardly migrating anymore.

What's my pont?? i have NON!! you just need to know this crap

OK, I'm wrong and somehow got caught in the BS. I don't even watch TV but it got me anyways. Dam box. :erk:

Welcome to US politics dude. I can't think of one bill proposed in the last decade that didn't have at least two understandings of it's interpretation that weren't implied. Totally not your fault.

There are so many hurdles to get across before anyone can judge a bill. First being it's language. How is it written, what does it say, what does it NOT say, when does it take effect, etc. Another is to consider what legislation it comes in conflict with or removes altogether.

My understanding of this Arizona bill is that it gives Officers the ability to ask for some sort of proof of citizenship after an arrest or suspect apprehension has been made. For instance this would warrant the Officer to ask:

This would not:

If you read the bill, they can ONLY ask for your ID if you actually break the law and they stop you for THAT (the original offense) reason. They CANNOT ask if you are going out for a walk in the park or getting ice cream like our "not-so-smart" President thinks.

However, there are many many CRAP laws that allow them to stop you; like not stopping behind the limit line on a stop sign, or no front plate, or a taillight out, or this or that. I am not saying it is right, but anybody can be stopped for those kinds of things. I have, and I am as white as it gets.

I don't think the president is "not-so-smart" for having the ability to connect the theory of your first paragraph with the practice described in your second.
I think the vast majority of Americans want to stop illegal immigration. I just think that some fear a police state where everyone brown is subject to constant DWB's. After all, in theory the voter registration literacy tests after emancipation in the southern US weren't racist either.

I think it's important to understand that there is a lot of (rational and irrational) fear mongering on both sides of this issue.

Apparently it's insanely hard. My dad works in universities and has stories of spending years and thousands of dollars to get work visas for PhD's to come teach in the US. And we are talking about Dr's from Europe not Afghanistan.

That is actually a huge part of the immigration issue. It's far easier to come here illegally and do manual labor than it is to come here legally as a Doctor.

Truth dude. My moms husband lived in the states and is married, has been for 17 years to my mother which is legal here and still couldn't get legal status. Now he is back in his country (Honduras, not a "mountain" person. He comes from a rather wealthy family) and my mother has been with out her husband for two years so far. She isn't happy about that. That dude worked F'n hard and could make money out of anything. Sucks.

Just a situational question: since being here illegally is...erm... illegal, and thus breaking the law, couldn't an officer suspect someone he thought who looked like an illegal immigrant and count that as grounds for checking for ID? As in, he was suspected of committing a crime (illegal immigration), so the officer was justified in asking for ID?

I think the shittiest part about ID's is that they're used as proof of citizenship or non-illegality, so suddenly my getting a fake ID becomes a shit ton harder because it has the possibility of being used to fake legal status in the country, when really I just want to buy booze. Fucking stupid!

He isn't that smart, and I stand by that. Either way, with stupid laws, they are still breaking the law, so send the illegals packing. I am sure there are hundreds of people a day who go get ice cream and don't break ANY laws during their trip.:rolleyes:

I hate AZ for building golf courses and swimming pools in the desert and running AC full blast year round. Brilliant use of resources there. It's as dumb as building cities under sea level and then acting surprised when they flood. /offensive OT rant.

It IS OT, but I couldn't agree more.

Cheers. :kickass:
