as for the second pic, well, i know what the whole object is (i can't help reading html sources, sorry), but i don't understand what part of the object is shown in the photo
to me, now it looks like an open thermos (vacuum flask) or the filter of a moka pot seen from above...

@beef: i only own a pentax optio (330) digicam, and that's what i used for the picture. the lens is small enough to fit into the thermos can.
