HEHE.

Dismember ARE melodic death metal. Listen to basically anything they've ever done. They've got melodic solos and everything. Listen to "Silent Are The Watchers", "Of Fire", "Dreaming In Red", "Retaliate" or whatever and try to tell me Dismember are not melodic death metal. Dismember IS melodic death metal, as opposed to i.e. brutal US-style DM, In Flames and co. are NOT. I will admit that the first couple of albums are not as melodic as the later stuff, excluding "Massive...", but as far as death metal goes, Dismember are WAY on the melodic side of things.

And FYI, I have "Like An Ever Flowing Stream", "Pieces", "Indecent And Obscene" and "Death Metal".

Well, every death metal subgenre has traces of melody, even brutal death metal, what I was trying to say is that Dismember is not labeled as melodic DM (genre wise), even though there are melodies in their music, back in the days of LaEFS there wasn't such a thing as melodic DM.

Thanks Tebus, FOR YOUR SUPPORT, when ya can help our message board out by telling other Vehemence fans to join.
ILL DISPOSED, WITHOUT GRIEF, SYMBYOSIS, THEORY IN PRACTICE, are some of the most extreme meloidc death bands, Embraced too in a way.

Possible, but if you want to make a distinction between the music Dismember plays and the music, for example, Cannibal Corpse or Nile play, "melodic death metal" is a very sensible label to put on Dismember IMO; much more sensible than calling stuff like In Flames "melodic death metal", as what they play is more like melodic thrash mixed with power metal melodicism and death metal vocals...

The main subject of this thread has been eclipsed by VC and his amazing contribution. :D

@Siren: I've managed to give him reputation, the job's done. :)

Regarding the original subject, I fail to see how bands like Opeth and Children Of Bodom are equally classified as melodic death metal. Opeth is technical death melodic metal with a very personal style and Children Of Bodom is heavy-speed metal grounded on growling vocals and also a good basis on keyboards. A matter of labels, I assume, but certain bands are hardly classifiable as death metal, even when it is melodic. Imo. :)
