I'm surprised to see Symphony X so much & Dream Theater left out so much. DT are barely mentioned... I don't think either one of their new albums were stellar, but I liked the DT much better than the SX. The DT is in my top 10 for the year.

It's a start to a new direction, and I would agree that it's not their best effort, but with Symphony X even a mediocre album is better than most shit out there

Hmmm... at the moment I think Ne Obliviscaris' The Aurora Veil is pretty close to taking out my top pick of the year. Which is not bad for a demo. These guys have got a huge future.

Dude's that's 10-18 hours a day you should spend learning an instrument. I don't practice that much anymore, but I won't really sit at home & listen to music for too damn long. I listen to a ton of music when I'm driving. I spend up to 2 hours a day driving, so that's like sometimes 3 albums a day.
