Best of 2005 - new, old, on the fence, disappointing, and still to come

yeah, you're right. my bad. It's only available through their website and at gigs. And they don't take Paypal or credit cards. bleh.......

I get the feeling that with Skyforger, you're better off going backwards. I hear their earlier stuff is much better than their power-folk metal phase.

well, I'm not getting any Skyforger unless I see their first two for dirt cheap (<$8).

But Dark Symphones just got THunderforge in for $10, so someone may want it.

Concerning Opeth, as far as I know, Mike only brieflly mentioned integrating some occult themes and black metal oriented ideas into the next album. Nothing was ever stated about releasing a full, true black metal album. That was a long time ago too, last I heard from Russell, he did an interview and said the album is probably going to incorporate more progressive elements. I know J. is just trying to fuck with everyone because he could really care less, but I'm interested to see where the album actually goes.

I'll be looking forward to that, as well as new Project Hate, and many of the other usual suspects mentioned here. I haven't heard a lot from this year, Vreid rules though.

...whereas Opeth is jumping from progressive death metal (?) to black metal. Why?

Just to bring in an opinion that no-one gives a shit about, Mike mentioned black metal as an influential element, and it all got blown out of proportion. I don't think Opeth will ever do anything in the vein of Norwegian black metal. To clarify, this is what Mike said about it:

"I`ll say these things for the people to have something to talk about. People probably think that that`s what the next album will be like as a whole.Obviously that`s not true, and I don`t really know myself yet."

Thanks you two, for the clarification. Yeah, I knew they'd never release a true black metal album, but I knew that I could get a rise out of some people if I pushed a little bit. Opeth is just an easy target.

THat being said, I will always respect the band, no matter how "bubblegum" their music may be or may get. After all, they did release Orchid.

Oh God, don't say that. When Opeth says progressive, they mean more of that insipid D & D sound. Great, more garbage. :yuk:

Well, it may not be so bad, so long as they shoot Steve Wilson and burn his cadaver prior any of the recording process begins. The release may not be horrid if they go that route.

DVD POSTPONED

Due to some technical problems with the printing of the "SOGNAMETAL" DVD, the relase will be postponed to April/May (it was supposed to be released in February). Since Vreid are currently on a 6 week European tour with Enslaved, the problem can not be fixed before they return to Norway in the middle of March. An exact release date will be given a.s.a.p

YES!!! :kickass: I know you hated America's Volume Dealer, I'm hoping for more of the same. :kickass:

In closing, I'd like to say one last thing: :kickass:

Get ready, because to these ears, the guitar sound is similar to St. Anger, some of the vocals are too.

Jesus, Pepper Keenan just follows whatever Hetfield does. I thought it was just a fluke when Hetfield appeared on Wisblood. But then Keenan tried out for the bass position in Metallica and now, we're graced with another St. Anger, with afew guitar solos and a slightly better snare drum sound.

BLIND = Best COC album, period. :D

Well, heheh...dunno bout you guys, but I've got a Want List for 2006 already :saint:
