Best of 2006 so far

im not sitting back laughing.
im not trying to prod people.
im not conducting an experiment.
i like the band.

but what i truly find sad is the closemindedness thats here. i used to talk about progressive rock and metal mostly. this was because the aptitude here simply allowed for just about only that. ive never been a stranger to discussing pop, jazz, electronica and everything else...there was just not much venue for it here. a band as promising and now as acomplished as MCR... is being either overlooked, pigeonholed or unappreciated by many of you simply because they get hair cuts regularly and are found on MTV. sure, they wear makeup. so did david bowie, kiss, alice cooper, elton john and many other prominent and important artists. being performers and showmen is just something thats a part of rock. you people listen to yes and genesis...dont tell me peter gabriel or rick wakeman were any different. anyone here who enjoys epic rock who actually sits down and gives this music an honest try, will find something to enjoy here. anyone else who doesn't...has been gagging on mikael's cock far too long. for those people...i recommend the t-shirt experience thread. grow up. end of discussion.

I watched a few of their vids on youtube, can't say any of the vids themselves were good at all, but I did like the song "tears don't fall" (I think thats what its called). Didn't like the other ones though. I'll give the singer credit, he's got a versatile voice.

Well.. Most people dislike their music.. just because it's really quite weak. I couldn't give 2 flying fucks about how bands look, i mean.. I listen to black metal for god's sake! I don't profess to know the most about music or bands, but i can definitely say i'm not close-minded and would never judge bands on aesthetics. I've listened to enough of their material to say they're in my category of 'crap bands'. However, i do commend them from at least attempting to stray from the one dimensional genre that spawned them, and attempt something more grandiose. I also like the fact that they genuinely seem to be a nice bunch of guys, not up their own arses and who have their own, greater vision for their music. But for me, that's pretty much where the appreciation ends.

one of the reasons they are so well established is because of the massive demand for them because their an easy and accesible choice for the teenagers that just want to 'breakout' and be different(almost like tool in a way, but easier to get into). either way, they write shoddy and fickle music. tons of bands have achieved this. still. Its shite.

ok, time to clear things...who started to listen to Enslaved because of nfu? :iwantnames:
welp i did, when he made the ruun thread on opethforum.

btw nfu, you remember the talk we had ages ago about the camel 'mystic queen' riff being the same as the one in the interlude of candlemass 'under the oak' ? you said there's a third song that has the same riff.

this has stayed in the back of my head since then, and i still don't think i've heard that song, so will you please enlighten me?

..i'm trying to get this information from you before you're completely brainwashed by mcr and converge ;)

I went to see them in Carlisle, and they didn't even show up. Pissed me right off, so I didn't bother checking out the record. What's good about it?

Consistent quality throughout, variation of heavy/mellow, long/short songs, vocal harmonies - to name but a few things. They're supporting Blackfield on their Euro tour in February so I'm lookin' forward to that gig as I'm a fan of both bands :worship:

I would really like to hear that if i get my hands on it. How is it?

It's hard to describe and I don't want to ruin the experience. But if you're a BC fan or you just appreciate a work of art and frail beauty then it's definitely worth checking out! The DVD-A mix is superb!

Pathetic....

I started listening to them because of the metal observer site...ISA was my first Enslaved album, then i got Below the lights. And since the Enslaved thread was created, i saw people raving about RUUN and decided to get it too...haven't listened to the older albums entirely, just a few songs.
