Best of 2006 so far

rofl if ppl like NFU and illidurit avoid tool because of maynards "whining, pussy voice", i can't wait to hear their justification for liking MCR

I could see what people dislike about Maynard's voice beyond it being "whiny, pussy" etc. I suppose anyone with a distinct voice like that is bound to have lovers and haters. If the whole world liked exactly the same shit this would be one boring fucking place!

That said, I think he's one of the best modern rock vocalists... very evocative!

right, different strokes for different folks. BUT, that doesnt change the fact that if people dislike "whining, pussy vocals", they should not be thinking so highly of MCR....imo

MCR's vocals are young sounding, but i wouldnt call them "whiny". besides, i dont beleive i ever said maynard whines...its his technique and style i just dont care for. i dont think it really works that well musically for my liking.

NFU, how is My Chemical Romance's non-single stuff? I've heard one song off the radio and it sounded pretty good!

well the previous albums are fairly straightforward. but the new one is a complete tour de force, and maybe one of the best concept albums ive heard in a very very long time. id definitely check out the entire new album. its diverse, consistant, and enjoyable. keep an open mind and i think youll be pleasantly surprised.

yep, it was one from the new album for sure that I heard, there was some line about going to the city to join the Black Parade. I was just wondering if it was one of those "the single sounds completely different than the rest of the album" albums. sounds like its consistent and worth the time to check it out. thanks!

There is more musicality, originality, creativity in any Danny Carey's drum pattern than the entire discrography of farts produced by My Chemical Romance.

I still find it hard to believe that NFU genuinely likes MCR for anything more than a joke or an attempt to try and see how many people will suddenly admit a liking for the band.

People should stop judging bands based on their popularity. From what I've read about this band, it sounds like the new album is mainly influenced by (along with Green Day probably) Queen and the Smashing Pumpkins, both acclaimed and accomplished artists in their own right.

Also, from what I've heard it doesn't sound at all the bubblegum pop you guys are makign it out to be. Interesting that the band intentionally allowed the album to leak before the release date, and that they were one of the first bands to offer free downloads on sites such as Myspace and PureVolume. Or something.

Whatever, all I've heard is a couple songs. When I hear the album, I'll see.

Well, i've heard the current and previous album, seen them live on TV a couple of times and seen all the videos. They're not at all to my taste, but i couldn't care if people like them. The way i heard their albums is through a friend playing me them.

..But a music snob like NFU liking them? I just find it surprising, that's all.

@affinity: I don't judge them based on that, I was just commenting that that is the closest thing to relevance that I can find in their sound. The "nothing much more" part that you so cleverly failed to quote meant, to me (and maybe I didn't express this very well), that their music didn't do anything for me. I've heard them many, many times, believe me.
