So far no omg so amazing albums this year, BUT a few songs really are:

Drudkh - Glare of Autumn
C2B3 (that Les Claypool thing) - Elephant Ghost
Ufomammut - Hopscotch
Sunn 0))) - Decay2 [Nihils' Maw]

That's all I can think of really, but they totally make this year worth it.

Drudkh - Sunwheel , Wind of The Night Forests
Void Of Silence - Human Antithesis
Secrets Of The Moon - Carved In Stigmata Wounds , albeit all the album is of equal quality

i was pretty disappointed actually. the first disc is allright (assuming the tracks are in the same order on the dcd as the lp) but the last is really boring, if they would have cut some 20 minutes off then it would have been pretty good; now it's just: :/

I disagree with your first sentence, I think there have been SEVERAL killer albums this year. Some of the best songs of the year so far:

Drudkh - Glare Of Autumn
Malevolent Creation - Ravaged By Conflict
1349 - Beyond The Apocalypse
Finntroll - Trollhammaren
Deathspell Omega - Sola Fide I
Borknagar - Resonance, Future Reminiscence
Insision - The Unrest
Decapitated - Lying And Weak
Cannibal Corpse - Nothing Left To Mutilate
Behexen - Watchers Of My Black Temple
Cattle Decapitation - Humanure
Monstrosity - Abysmal Gods
Mayhem - Rape Humanity With Pride
Mastodon - Blood And Thunder

Ah, here's another.

I just haven't been blown away by any 2004 album in its entirety. Yet. Although I've given a whole shitload of 8/10 scores so this year doesn't suck by any means.

This album is pretty special , many people find it boring , but I enjoy it at times , not like a BM-album though . And I always say the longer , the better when there is quality (if you don't like it , it'll suck yea)

hmm...

Fates Warning - Another Perfect Day
Ayreon - Trauma
Into Eternity - Isolation
Orphaned Land - Norra El Norra
Kataklysm - For All Our Sins
Jag Panzer - Achilles
Megadeth - Kick The Chair

There's more that I can't think of right now.

Mastodon - Hearts Alive rocks too :headbang:

Forgot Orphaned Land - Birth Of The Three

Evergrey - "More Than Ever"
Threshold - "Ground Control"
Ayreon - "Day 12"
Dead Soul Tribe - "Why?"
hm... this is kinda scary... i'm starting to sound like an advertisement for Inside Out
uhhh...
Drudkh - Glare Of Autumn

Hard to choose only a few, but the top 3 would be:
Deathspell Omega - Carnal Malefactor
Pest (swe) - Lífit es Dauðafærð
Nasheim - Undergång

The best song of the year so far is easily Void of Silence - Human Antithesis. All others are pretenders.

1. Fates Warning rules. Can't wait to hear the whole album.
2. Trauma is nothing short of amazing.
3. Incredible composition (like all 10 on that album)... but my favorite is "Three Dimensional Aperture"
4. I really need to listen to these guys more.
5. no comment
6. I"ve heard lots great things about the new JP. Can't wait.
7. Eh.

Yup that's a monolith of a song , the band could have released an EP with that song only it would rule still .

Off the top of my head (and in no order):

My Dying Bride - The Blue Lotus
Nasheim - Allt Svartnar
Megadeth - Blackmail the Universe
Drudkh - Wind of the Night Forests
Iced Earth - The Devil to Pay (from Gettysburg)
Amon Amarth - Fate of Norns
Into Eternity - Splintered Visions
Woods of Ypres - The Sun was in My Eyes pt 1 & 2
Jag Panzer - Mission 1941
Uaral - Eternal Beauty of the Trees, Sounds of Pain
Orphaned Land - Building the Ark, Mabool

Mars de Grises and Deathspell Omega deserve mention too, but I can't remember the track names right now.

Bergthron would have probably made it to the list as well had it not been for the Glenn Benton style of non-stop vocals.
