Black metal or Death metal....

What? Doom/Drone is much closer to DM for the most part. Most doom is just slowed down death metal with different lyrical content and vocal styles. Play some old My Dying Bride songs at 200% speed and see for yourself what the riffing sounds like.

I can't believe you think prog and jazz are just as important in Opeth's music as metal. There's hardly any jazz influence at all. Prog isn't even a part of their music for the first few albums.

I know Sunn O))) is very inspired by BM, and their new album is supposed to be very BM, and maybe even has a BM cover on it if I remember correctly.

Yeah, so Opeth started off as a DM band, but the more mellow styles are increasingly important in their newer material I feel!

Black metal is more evil than death metal... Death metal is actually very boring, just listen to Nile or Cannibal Corpse.... teh bore... Cryptopsy is cool but I think they're closer to black than death. So overall, black metal is teh win.

I don't really like either, both kinda bore me generally though I like a few bands of each subgenre. If I had to choose, probably black.

I listen to mainly Death Metal, but I do listen to a few Black Metal bands (Darkthrone, Dark Funeral, Emperor, Twilight Ophera).

what the fuck.

nehoo i prefer death, but if i had to go for more evil sounding then it would be black. Just listen to burzum or mayhem:ill:

I don't care for too many 'death metal' bands, but about every favorite band of mine is 'progressive death metal'. About the only vanilla dm bands I really like are Edge of Sanity and Quo Vadis.

However, I like a lot of vanilla black metal bands, Burzum, Emperor, Bathory etc etc, and avant-garde black metal such as Arcturus or Vintersorg is so delicious!

Hard to decide :D I guess I'll go with black metal, as the prog-death bands are usually more progressive than death.

Nile is boring.

Most death metal is boring (minus a few bands, ie; Crytopsy & Demilich)

Black Metal rules.

Thread Closed.

I think if you dont like the typical BM production you'll find most of the bands boring, and the same with DM, if you don't like Niles production... just don't even both listening! I love both though, and I'm sure seeing a BM or DM band live would throw anyones opinions out the window, as both genres have the most giving musicians out there when it comes to playing live!

Nile is the only 'brutal' death metal band I can stand. The only band I can appreciate so much really. As for the rest of brutal death metal, it doesn't do much for me.
