Black Metal.

I heard Kampen and was kinda unimpressed...it was OK, but nothing I'd keep around for the most part.

We always talk about French BM here, but we hardly ever discuss Eikenskaden or the equally competent Mystic Forest...any reason?

1) Does anyone know where I can buy Epheles?
2) Does anyone know when those Arckahum reissues are supposed to come out?

Fran Marder is the best Arckanum album, I reckon. All his albums are really good and extremely underrated, in any case. I'm pleased to hear of reissues; original copies of the first three albums go for fucking insane amounts on ebay.

I also recommend Nåstrond, highly underrated and atypical Swedish Black Metal.

Cool, I'll check out Nåstrond...how is it atypical? Do you know of any coldly melodic and intense Swedish black metal like Octinomos, Sacramentum, etc.? I know that's basically THE style of Swe-BM, but I ain't having much success finding new relevant stuff like that...

Atypical in the sense that it's not that cold, melodic type of Black Metal Sweden's well known for, nor the queer Norsecore shit. Age of Fire, when listened to in it's entirety, is a really strange experience. It has an intense ritualistic and occult atmosphere that I can't really liken to anything else I've heard. Toteslaut is also quite good. It's a shame they're fucking hard to find too.

I can't think of anything new from Sweden in that style... Apparently Vinterland have reformed so perhaps they'll deliver something worthwhile. I always enjoy Welcome My Last Chapter.

Also Dodens, those Arckanum reissues are scheduled for release in early January, according to FMP.

I'd like to find out more about Swedish 2nd wave black metal, I think I would really like some of it, also current non 2nd wave bands would be fine reccomendations as well, as most of you know, I'm mainly a Dark Funeral, Marduk, and Lord Belial fan from that region.

Post here when those Arckanum re-releases drop, I'd love to get my hands on a copy of this...fuck, it's awesome! Maybe I should bother checking out Kampen again!

By people that know of them, yes. However, they are rarely ever mentioned in the same breath with the likes of Blut Aus Nord or Deathspell Omega, despite being superior to both IMO.

My guess is because their albums aren't widely available. I've actually never seen anything by Epheles for sale anywhere. Anyhow, I agree, they're probably the best contemporary French Black Metal act.

Distribution matters a lot. Epheles is not widely available. Apparently they are not widely known though. Even my modest band has several times more plays than the unofficial Epheles Myspace page.

I will have to listen more before I make a sound judgment on them, but I'm not that impressed initially.

You're bound to enjoy most of what Swe-Black has to offer.
