Christian Metal

the argument isn't that christian metal can't be good but that it can't exist

Sorry my comment was in reguards to even if it can exist....should it... Once you get pasted the bands who've half the talent of secular bands who are just out to get their message heard, and the bands who are talented but preachy you get to the fact that all they need to be sucessful is support from the Christian community....Not quite worth having around.

However if metal is not by virture rebellious in nature....maybe I missed something.

look andrew, metal is badass christians are pansies, ever heard of a badass pansy?! what kind of hermaphroditic nonsense genre are you concocting?!

on a slightly more serious note, obviously something that sounds metal with christian lyrics is perfectly possible, but the fact is it's pointless slapping these themes on a genre which has a negative correlation with those themes, in both spirit and sound. unless you're being ironic or something, i guess

someone probably said this before but im not reading this whole thread

So, if I'm reading all of this right, the reason Xtrian metal can't work is because metal is a conduit for a release of anger, (or to revel in it), whereas the Xtrian religion is supposed to be about love and peace, which directly contradicts that release. I see. Well, I am of the mind that listening to music that propels you forward with much energy and fervor CAN also favor the positive. And, I actually LIKE the overall message some Xtrian bands give, when they aren't prostelytizing or being a cheesy caricature. Having said THAT, I am an atheist, and completely abhor any message of "if you believe in god, you'll be fine". Fuck that noise. Let my revel in the nihilism for awhile before I reintergrate into the human race again.

The idea that Christianity cannot be a topic of a metal song is narrow minded and retarded. Each metal song lyric is an expression of the lyric writer. Whether it is based on the writer's world view, on fantasy storytelling, on actual events, based on feeling and emotions, mental and emotional states, or whatever. Many bands are out there just writing about extreme violence, and for what reason? Are these things they do? Advocate? Mostly it is just because that's what some metal bands do. Somewhat similar, I suppose, to horror movie writers. In that case is it more trve to write about something you actually do, or something just for "fun" or shock value?

Who is to say what topics are allowed in trve metal? I think anyone who sets limits on this is just narrow minded and false.

Very true. Satanists wish to share a message in Metal, too. So are bands like Akercocke, Gorgoroth, and Dimmu Borgir pansy?

Hmmm...I've thought about this for a while, and I must say, that I also don't think Christian Metal exists. Whereas those bands might be good or not...I'm sorry, the very nature of metal contradicts everything that Christ is...I'm a Christian myself and I absolutely LOVE metal METAL RULES!!!!!

...but of one thing I'm sure...and that is that God is not in it. I like metal because of the anger thing...and I'm a very angry person. So yeah. I've listened to some Christian bands and somehow...I never feel like they bring me closer to Christ in any way. So....if they're just in it for the music...I think they ought to drop the whole Christian label. Besides...what is Christianity really about? A relationship with God, not rituals or whatever. My 2 cents.
