controversial movie/book/non-metal music opinions thread

Well the Evil Dead trilogy at least had atmosphere and humour, Romero had social commentary, Argento had a certain gory beauty and Bava was just a master of sombre and creepy. Fulci had nothing, although I do give him credit for coming up with the most B grade zombie scene ever - the one with the naked women, the zombie and shark.

Just watched Immortel (Ad Vitam). I'm sure lotsa people really don't like it because of the CGI/acting/story/whatever but I thought it was pretty cool.

The LOrd of the Rings movies are terribly overrated. The arent anywhere near perfecton as some would have it. I wouldnt go so far as to say they are plain bad but man do they bore me. I fint little interesting in the story and I hate the overblownness of all the effects and big battles and such. It never manages to suspend my disbelief for a second. One of the worst examples is the scene in moria how they run away from millions of monsters (cant remember their name).

I read one of the books and it didnt capure my imagination either but I can understand why some like it.

Star Wars (the original) isnt as great as everyone says. Its kind of like Iron Maiden to me. Its not bad and it was hugely influential and has shaped alot of followers but I just dont see the greatness of it from my personal perspetive.

Oh and I hate Jim Carrey. He's never funny and destroys almost every movie he's in. He pretty much always does the same role only in different surroundings and clothes. He's crap plain and simple. As overrated as it gets.

I also think most horror movies are overrated. Movies can make me laugh, make me cry, make me smile etc but nothing has ever scared me since I turned 13 or so. Horror seems to often be just failed attempts. I do however love the tension of drama like thrillers like The Village. Its just the movies that gets labeled "horror" that seldom does anything for me.

Ace Ventura is fucking awesome, actually.

Here is a list of sacred cow books that I find really, really fucking shit.

- Moby Dick
- The Great Gatsby
- Heart of Darkness
- Neuromancer
- Lord of the Rings Trilogy (seriously)

There are lots more I fucking hate, but this is a good start.

praising the village voids any post that criticizes movies tbh

I also like other slow moving movies like The Fountain, Alien, The others and Cube (fist one was great, second not so much and the 3rd was alright). I like the slow paced stuff that bulds alot of emotion.

But hey Im pretty flexible when it comes to movie taste. I enjoy Batman Begins, Back to the Future, Notting Hill, Bram Stokers Dracula, Bill and Ted, Cloverfield, Little Children, The Matrix, Finding Nemo etc.

I have never been scared by a movie in my entire life, yet horror would be one of my favourite genres. It so happens that good horror movies are good for entirely other reasons than being scary.

Cube was awesome. The second was crap yet I enjoyed every moment of it. It was mostly entertaining for being laughably bad but still got a lot of things right. For one thing, it's probably one of the most realistic depictions of time travel I have ever seen. If time travel was to be possible everything would quickly get completely fucked up, which it did get, and most likely the very fabric of existence would collapse unless it was on a limited time scale, which it was.

the village isn't shit because it's slow moving, it's shit because it's a inept little twist-vehicle.

LOTR movies have a lot to admire and i'm not very tolerant of people who outright slate them. the first film particularly grabbed the tone, fitting really 'cause the first book was best as well. obviously it's overwrought as fuck especially later on, all the gooey slow mo shots of people's faces are just BAD cinema, but as far as i'm concerned he gets away with it.

jim carrey is solid in 'eternal sunshine' which is pretty clearly the best film he's taken part in. even that one's a bit overrated though, gets docked a few points for the stupid sideplot. and 'liar liar' is a guilty pleasure for me haha.

I couldn't agree more with both of these statements.

M Night Shamalamalam movies provoke a very strong feeling of violence inside of me. I want to beat him senseless for even considering making "The Happening".

i laid into 'the happening' here, amazing how bitter that guy got when he realised nobody was paying attention anymore. i still like 'unbreakable' though.
