I’ve discussed this before but not in this thread:
Black metal is unfairly maligned for being too derivative compared to other genres of metal. The amount of times I’ve heard/read “this is a boring Darkthrone/Burzum clone” or something that effect is a lot.
Also lots of comments of it having the largest amount of crap of any sub genre that seem to be arbitrary and backed up with little evidence.
Nah it gets about the right level of criticism. Pretty much every metal genre is derivative by definition though since they're all defined by usage of a relatively narrow palette of riffs.
