Bare in mind the root of the influence, which brought about the transition to a less 'showy' and more plain image in metal. In other words, what you deem to be more masculine metal, be it a metal video with no strong fantasy element or whatnot, well that was inspired by some total shit heads who didn't play solos because they couldn't.

It could even be said that a good sign of false metal is that it is presented as non gay metal.

Some of the lyrics in Manowar songs sound more like verses from a religious text than anything.

That said, I don't think Manowar are gay. I think they have a fucking great time playing good ol' fashioned heavy metal and they take it to extremes. Cheesy, yes; but gay, no, mainly because I don't think they take their image very seriously.
