Rabid Death's Curse is easily their worst tbh. It's produced/mixed akwardly and is highly repetitive. It's not a bad album but the stuff that followed is 100x better.

Prometheus was kind of a prequel to Ihsahn's solo work. I love the Angl album; just listened to it (for the billionth time). Neither album is very black metal, though.

I remember listening to Prometheus when I was 14 and digging it, then I bought Anthems and ITNE and thinking "holy fuck this is way better, the songs seem to flow so much more easily".

Also you're just saying the influences that are in an album, obviously you can pinpoint certain characteristics to an album and band, but it's clear they aren't "just" what you're referring to, and even so, the ability to take all of that and brand it into something that is still new, original and fucking awesome should be apparent.and Necrophagist doesn't have shit on Obscura anymore, they may have blown away everyone at one point, but the magic is gone and Obscura has taken the place of supreme leader.

I did not say that Decrepit birth is "better" than Obscura, i said that Decrepit Birth is "harder to digest" than Obscura.

All Pestilence without van Drunen is major suckage. Testimony of the Ancients is generic smorgasbord metal, passing off as an early experimental/progressive death metal masterpiece with fancy guitar solos, extraneous keyboard usage, and worthless interludes, the last of which completely fail at giving the album any sort of continuity that they attempt. There's some standard Obituary-style death metal, some thrash, some traditional doom, none disrespectfully performed or inappropriate with death metal vocals, but all of them boring imitations. Doesn't help that Mameli's voice lacks any passion.
