Hey, i would flip out to hear a progresive metal band cover old progressive rock masterpieces, such as:

Roundabout - Yes
21st Century Schizoid Man - King Crimson
Watcher of the Skies - Genesis

you know... stuff like that. Hell, I'd love to get a Symphony X fanclub cd, regardless of what songs they cover.

hell yeah!!! that's the best idea i've read so far here...cover YES, KING CRIMSON, ELP, JETHRO...the roots man!! the roots!

I'd also like to hear the stuff that inspired the band. Zeppelin, Rush, Sabbath, Kansas, Yngwie (man, I'd love to hear Romeo rip through "Far Beyond the Sun", "Trilogy Suite", or "Eclipse"... and you know he loves Yngwie). All of this would be cool, as with some Dream Theater.

Rush-The Camera Eye
ELP-Tarkus
Testament-The Preacher
Genesis-Watcher of the Skies
Tears for Fears-Shout
Metallica-Four Horsemen
Fates Warning-Prelude to Rain
Yngwie-Far Beyond the Sun
Yes-Roundabout
Rick Wakeman-Lancelot and the Black Knight
Queen- shooting star? not sure of the name, good song though.

Dude, if they are going to do an 80's pop song then it's gotta be Rio by Duran Duran. That songs got the crazy bass line, and some moderately heavy guitar for 80's pop, not to mention that heavy ass part when he's going, "you make me feel alive alive alive!!!!!!"

Rullo would be tearin that shit up there too, and instead of that gay ass saxaphone, it would be romeo and pinella dueling it out, oh man, it would rock

Now that'd be interesting! Russel doing a Simon LeBon!

But on the Queen tip:

March of the Black Queen
Liar
My Fairy King
Seven Seas Of Rhye
Death on Two Legs
The Prophet Song
Bohemian Rhapsody
Brighton Rock
Tie your mother down

Damn I'd love Syx doing old Queen!

I don't think there is a song named "Shooting Star" by Queen but there are two songs that I can think of with the words in them:

* One Year of Love

and

* Don't Stop Me Now

Maybe it's one of those songs?

Here's some more that I thought of:

"E. T. I." by Blue Oyster Cult
"Machine Messiah" by Yes
"Crystal Ball" by Yngwie Malmsteen
"The Wall" by Kansas
"Cheyenne Anthem" by Kansas
"Trilogy" by Emerson, Lake & Palmer
"From the Beginning" by Emerson, Lake & Palmer (Yeah, I know. Dokken already covered this one. A Sy-X version would be cool).

My list:

Björk - Hyper-Ballad
Björk - Pluto
Opeth - Demon of the Fall
Opeth - Bleak
U2 - Sunday Bloody Sunday
U2 - Zoo Station
Pink Floyd - On The Run
Pink Floyd - The Great Gig In The Sky
Aghora - Kali Yuga
Aghora - Immortal Bliss
Mahavishnu Orchestra - Birds of Fire
King Crimson - I Talk To The Wind
Dream Theater - The Glass Prison
Mayhem - Funeral Fog
Emperor - Curse You All Men!

....to test the band's abilities

There are so many songs I'd like them to cover, but only a few come to mind right now:

--"Levitation" by Hawkwind(let's see them do this one better than Amorphis, shall we?)

--"Trilogy" by ELP

--"Suicide Solution" by Ozzy Osbourne

What do you guys think of SyX covering Judas Priest's "Burn In Hell" or "Beyond the Realms of Death"?

Here it goes:

Metallica - Don't Tread on Me
Metallica - Blackened
Metallica - St. Anger (LOL, kiddin'...!!)
Dream Theater - The Mirror
Dream Theater - Pull Me Under
Yngwie Malmsteen - Rising Force
Yngwie Malmsteen - Riot in The Dungeons
Blind Guardian - I'm Alive
Blind Guardian - Bright Eyes
Transformers - The Movie (Theme Song)
Dio - Holy Diver
Jethro Tull - Songs from The Wood
Rainbow - Ariel
Nightwish - Wanderlust
Judas Priest - Nightcrawler
