culture and traditions

And I don't get this. How in earth the good old USA can force anyone to buy Ms. Spears records? Or buy hamburgers. It's free choice.

nobody's blaming the USA when people in foreign countries eat hamburgers or dress like american pop idols. those countries are the ones to be blamed for. their youth is losing their individuality and personality...what can be worse than that?

like dora said, it's all about education - whether it's at school or in the streets or on tv/papers/magazines.

and buying a pop idol's records and imitating one is not the same: one is appreciating art (which is 100% subjective) and a lack of identity (which is 100% immature).

THE ATOM BOMB SAVED MANY LIVES?

i was in no way defending japan, but the atom bomb? please give me a break. you are the first person i've ever met who compsed a sentence like "I think that those two atom bombs dropped in Japan were actually a good thing." do i need to point out the obvious irony in that?

im the second person you've met now:tickled:

seriously tho, the japanese were condtioned to defend their homeland to the death, look at what happened on saipan and okinawa. those two bombs convinced them to surrender without the massive loss of life to their population and the US forces. Anyway the japanese started the war so they can hardly complain about the yanks bombing the fuck outta them rather than risking their own lives

well...the atom bomb (statistics vary on this point) killed about 250,000 people added to the people who still die today because of the radiation. The advisers to Truman (american president at the time for those who dont know) estimated that if the american troops were to enter Tokio 1 million lives would be lost. So, basically, these are the different points.

1) Some could say that it saved lives(250,000 killed rather than 1 million)
2) Other's would say that the estimations were wrong
3) other's could say that the America shouldnt have dropped the bomb and taken the chance to invade Tokio.
4) The japanese should have surrendered after the bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, and since they didnt, another bomb was dropped on Nagasaki. So we could say that it was the japanese stubborness to not surrender that caused further havoc.

oe.

education.
free choice, if we talk about _good_ choices and real ones, they need working human brain. and information. way of thinking and that. intelligence.

i presume the us education and lots of western ones are shit. they spread lies on tv too. but its not so good in europe either. they started to ban words like "light ciggies" and "fat-free" cos they werent real. "Ligths" are not light cos theyare harmful and fat-free usually contains still much fat.. and then ppl start to think that they have now the truth finally. But the problem is that they are not any fucking educated on a matter, e.g. if ppl would exactly learn _everything_ about smoking and effects and that, then no restriction would be needed on words, they could write on a box "healthy good-smelling forest-fresh marlboro" and still let a free and good choice to people who know the truth.

If you want to control people, you can use force or weapons or fear, but if you can make them as stupid as my ass, then its more easy. They'll even praise you.

Who are these 'people' your refering to that DONT KNOW? I feel as though your saying that the majority of americans are blind(and stupid as your ass) and cannot see the lies spread by tv and other means of communication...dont condemn the american people and education like that. I have been in us education systems for a while and you'd be suprised to see that the americans arent all that stupid and cowboy-like. You'll get the "blind" and ignorant EVERYWHERE in the world, the americans, or the westerners arent more ignorant and tricked by lies of government and media anymore than are the others in this world.

yeah i second what oe says below, but this is as simple as it gets:

why attack civilians? and with an atom bomb, for heaven's sake? think about it this way: what would the whole world say if the US troops entered tokio and shot 200,000 innocent civilians in sight? oh, but when it's one single atom bomb (what was it called? long john? fat sam? whatever), it's a good thing.

hahahaha this is why i was saying your problem is lack of knowledge: afghans still live in caves, but what do you think they should do? move to three-storey apartments...when there are none in their country?
Is is only because of poor leaders that these people are seriously fucked? With that caveman comment I didn't mean actually living in caves but all the useless "moral" shit that comes part with the culture and heritage. Violence, no rights or education for women and stuff like that. With or without Taleban it seems to happen. And that's why they won't have an access anything more comfortable than caves.

Cultures evolve. I don't want to climb back to the trees only bacause my forefathers were monkeys. Or burn witches and not to wash myself. These things were perfectly acceptable back then. Witch-hunting still goes on lesser cultures. As an individual surely you can't accept that.

Oh and Ms. Spears music is as valid as anything else.

i didnt say that all americans are stupid. and others not.
but its funny to see on a can of anything those warnings that its cold, hot even if its called "hot tea" and those big technical drawing to guide you toopen it as if you were stupid.
anyway, there was a Gallup poll recently in EU: 26% of ppl said the sun revolves around the earth. poor Copernicus :(

about the bomb: i think ethically its not the same to fight with soldiers (who are ready to die or have to be) or bombing defenceless families, children..

I know everything!

Or at least I will, once the infusion takes hold...

why are you only talking about the negative things that took place in your history? dont you have any good traditions, cultural aspects, famous dishes or something? im sure you do. if all you see in your culture is burning witches and living in trees, then i pity you.

while there is a lot of shit that im ashamed of in my nation's history, there is a greater deal of things that im proud of, for instance. and being patriotic and nationalistic dont mean clinging to the past blindly. it is, using your terminology, evolving. there is nothing wrong with wearing blue jeans, listening to anathema and visiting your old relatives on religous holidays like they did in the past.

we are given a wonderful organ: the brain. it is there for us to decide what to do. one does not have to turn its back to the future, technology and grasp its old, out-of-date traditions/acts. and neither does one have to (and shouldnt do) turn its back on the past and be a non-thinking futuristic pleasure-seeker.

i never said anything about Ms. Spear's music. i dont care if someone listens to her music, but if that someone is a cheap copy of a pop idol, than i pity her, too.

Yes. It's nice to have these options. And that's why some cultures are crap because they don't allow this. And that's exactly why I take McShit any day over any oppressive regime who want their citizens to live in middle age. Or citizens ignorant or weak enough to let themselves to be ruled by these bastards.

you are right, who would want to live under such a rule? are women in iraq really happy, for instance? even men, are they? but why does the solution have to be another oppression?

why would someone have to work and get paid $2 per hour so that an american who lives half a world away can get gas for his car? dont tell me that after these attacks in, say, iraq the community will be "free" and have the right of self-determination.

personally speaking, i would never want to live under a taleban regime, and niether would i want to be a korean working 12 hours to be paid $20 a day for a $200 shoe. when others can practice TOTAL freedom, why cant i?
