The thing that really ticks me off. Monstrosity 'imperial doom' has not even been reissued and you have 1000 cds of the same sounding brutal death metal band coming out all at the sametime and now you have 5 thousand bands that sound like devourment and you can't even get an album you like and listen to it because now everyone likes all these new shitty bands and no one gave a shit your favorite album came out because everyone are trendy scenesters.

If you actually cared so much, release it yourself. Right now you are nothing more than a backseat driver with a computer, complaining to people who don't care about your opinions on a pathetic forum on the internet.

I am with the majority of people in that modern death metal is mostly shit. However I still prefer hearing innovation (in bands like nile and augury) rather than hearing the 10000000000000000th swedish early 90s DM band with the exact same pace, guitar tone, and songwriting.

That's why I generally have a nice balance between old school DM (immolation, nocturnus, atheist, early death, deteriorot, dismember, hypocrisy, etc...) and modern DM that is good (vader, behemoth, nile, augury, suffocation, lykathea aflame, neuraxis, etc...)

you are false for not including Grave, Incantation, Autopsy and Entombed in that list!

Now a days people think in flames,etc.. are death metal bands. Everyone is praising all these shitty new brutal death metal acts. I have come across people that honestly don't know what death metal is before 1998,etc... I have come across brutal death metal musicians that discredit the entire european death metal scene and say it sucks, but they like some shitty brutal death metal band like devourment. I have seen people think NYC death metal is better than old florida death metal bands or like some shitty brutal death metal bands and no older scene. There is nothing more retarded than that. Go on death metal forums and notice all the people into all these newer death metal and notice they know jackshit.

The thing is, a lot of people here are pretty well-schooled in metal (and maybe other genres) and they enjoy a lot of bands who existed and peaked before they even knew what metal was, sometimes long before. This isn't necessarily indicative of the extreme metal market as a whole, however. Obviously, a band like Metallica or Slayer is able to impact many generations of metalheads, but once you scrape below the surface into the more underground side, a lot of younger fans are more into the contemporary acts---the ones just breaking out who at the top of their game, not the old school bands who put out amazing records 15-20 years ago but have declined in popularity and quality since then. A friend of mine is 15 and really into death metal. He likes Nile, Necrophagist, Behemoth, Origin, Decapitated, etc...basically, all bands who have really broken through within the last 5 years or so. But he couldn't tell you jack shit about great bands from a decade or so earlier like Dismember, Amorphis, Bolt Thrower, Death, etc. My experience is that among younger fans, this is the norm, not the exception, and it's probably true of any generation of music fans.

But it certainly isn't just newer, younger fans taking to the newer, brutal bands. I know a number of people older than me (I'm 25) who have been into extreme metal longer and were into all the old bands who still listen to the new stuff. As mentioned earlier, just because someone's tastes are different or arguably inferior doesn't mean they are any less educated in the music.

That said, Carcass and Morbid Angel got me into death metal in the first place, and bands of that era will always have a place in my heart that newer bands won't. I also agree that with newer DM, there's a TON of crap too sift through before you find anything worthwhile (which is partially due simply to there being more bands out there now). But I love a good brutal death band when I hear one. Severe Torture, Gutted, Abysmal Torment, Cenotaph and Mortal Decay are just a few bands whose recent material I dig.

I used to only listen to black and death metal, thinking that all the less-extreme genres were simply stepping stones to the extreme. But luckily I've starting to discover how wrong I was, thanks in part to your doom recommendations. Regardless, extreme metal will be a priority until I am completely exhausted by it, and I'm hoping that exhaustion will never come.

It will....

Jesus Christ Greys! You are one hell of a whiner. You can't expect music genres to not evolve eventually and death metal is no exception. For the record, I don't care for brutal death metal either but I respect and accept it as the evolution of death metal. Plus, there are plenty of contemporary old school death metal albums coming out to satisfy my appetite so there really isn't any reason for me (or anyone else into old school death metal) to bitch.

off topic:

Panserfaust666 your avatar gives me the impression your a hardcore thug with strong underground hip-hop taste. 50 cent is a pussy.

....Just an impression, though.

What annoys me more are the people that only listen to Extreme Metal.
Hmm, I have to say I am one of these people. However, this is not because I think extreme metal is better or classic metal is shitty or what not. And I don't find it a stepping stone to extreme metal. For example I have been into extreme metal the entire time I've been into metal. The least extreme thing I own is Slayer. Right now I am still enjoying and discovering more of what I like from death and black. Eventually I know I will grow weary of all that and it makes me feel good to know there is still a vast amount of music waiting for me in the less extreme areas of metal. I probably still annoy you but whatever

Also Brutal death is good, V5 describes it well. I'm glad to see at least a few more people besides me and V5 popping out of the woodwork to defend it. I probably like it more than most in that even mediocre BDM is enjoyable for me, but the best bands of the genre truly are great.

Actually a classic death metal cd has come out recently.

Evocation-tales from the tomb. A band reforms 15+ years later owns the genre and probably had nothing to do with death metal all this time and still play it better. That's how shitty the current state of death metal is.

Also I'm not whining and just saying....

A little bit. I just find it hard to believe that one could find the proper appreciation for extreme metal without understanding where it came from. For some reason I find it almost insulting to only be into extreme metal as if traditional style of metal are just antiquated and inferior relics of the past and extreme metal is the future.

Edit: Cody, did you ever check out the thread that I made in the recommendation forum about contemporary old school death metal? I suggest you stop whining and go there.

yeah i have a buddy whos only into brutal death and shit. and he has his brutal death band, it soudns generic. everythign sounds generic these days. there are few bands that innovate instead of copy, and thats what i listen to. fuck that shitty death-core etc.
