Death Metal

For some reason I find it almost insulting to only be into extreme metal as if traditional style of metal are just antiquated and inferior relics of the past and extreme metal is the future.
As I stated this is NOT what I feel. Extreme metal is what got me into metal and what I am doing now. Just as I branched out from only listening to death metal into black, I assume in the future I will branch out into other genres as my desires change.

Wow, really, things that are high quality are good? Dude, I think you're on to something.
:p

Newer Death Metal does suck for the most part. The best releases in recent years has been Crimson Massacre's The Luster of Pandemonium, Stargazer's TSTTTS, and Portal's Seepia.

However I may be missing something. Can someone recommend me the best to come out of the genre since say, 2000? (avoid the obvious). I doubt my opinion will sway much but it's worth a shot I guess. Also, no Brutal Death, thanks.

Hmm, I have to say I am one of these people. However, this is not because I think extreme metal is better or classic metal is shitty or what not. And I don't find it a stepping stone to extreme metal. For example I have been into extreme metal the entire time I've been into metal. The least extreme thing I own is Slayer. Right now I am still enjoying and discovering more of what I like from death and black. Eventually I know I will grow weary of all that and it makes me feel good to know there is still a vast amount of music waiting for me in the less extreme areas of metal. I probably still annoy you but whatever

Also Brutal death is good, V5 describes it well. I'm glad to see at least a few more people besides me and V5 popping out of the woodwork to defend it. I probably like it more than most in that even mediocre BDM is enjoyable for me, but the best bands of the genre truly are great.

I defend it. Deeds Of Flesh and Severed Savior are good bands.

i love death metal, but not most of the brutal crap because 90% of all brutal death metal bands play one generic death metal song that they all have in common.

i love bands like morbid angel, death, atheist, massacre, bands that make some molestin' music.err.... what did zoidberg mean by that? molesting? anyone know of any really under the radar not generic brutl death metal bands that are out there because i want to know.

Necromeo away!

err... necromeo? another questionable choice of words by zoidberg.

kataklysm - serenity in fire and in shadows and dust were two albums that brought me more towards where i am today and i know the blast beats can seem repetetive but i still enjoy this band a lot

bloodbath - ressurection through carnage was a really good one that i also enjoyed/still do

vehemence - god was created is an album i am really getting into

skyfire - mind revolution is an interesting more melodic death metal album

thos are some of my favorites but i really would reccomend that vehemence album to anyone

!T.O.O.H.! - Rad a trest
Arghoslent - Incorrigible Bigotry (probably too obvious)
Demiurg - Breath of the Demiurg
Psypheria - Embrace the Mutation
Scythe - Decay
Wayd - Decadance

death aflame, try

nile - in their darkened shrines (obvious I know, but this album is a masterpiece)
neuraxis - truth beyond...
augury - concealed
arsis - a celebration of guilt
deteriorot - in ancient beliefs
pavor - furioso

all those are good tech death except deteriorot, which is slow and crushing death metal similar to immolation.
