Death Metal

plenty of good suggestions above. i'm just gonna cite one of my favourite 'gateway' bands because i'm listening to them right now:

While this is a personal favourite of mine, I didn't suggest it because it actually took me a really long time to get into. I heard "Before the Dawn" (which I liked a lot) before buying it, and then I found the rest impenetrable for some reason. I only persevered with it because it has a dark aura that most death metal wishes it had. Now I love it.

Good call on that Poison! Into the Abyss is fucking amazing.

I've seen a lot of people criticizing drum sounds/performance in the mixed theme game, but the only one I've heard that actually really bothers me is that snare sound on Eucharist's A Velvet Creation. It's really distracting, especially when they start blasting. Such a shame because otherwise I'd be a huge fan of that album.

Well when I bought it 7/8 years ago and I hit the part at 1:25 into "Greeting Immortality", I turned it off not much later and vowed never to unleash that snare sound again on these ears. An obvious overreaction and I've since come around to listening to it. Once I get more familiar with it I'm sure it won't be a problem.

Back when I was first getting into metal, the snare sound on Obituary's Cause of Death annoyed the Hell out of me and I thought the production on Blessed are the Sick sucked because it lacked "heaviness". Funny looking back on these things.

Well I have read thoughts that the production on the following albums is an issue:

The Chasm - Deathcult for Eternity: The Triumph, never once been an issue for me, I think it's perfect.

Moonblood - Blut und Krieg, everything is perfectly audible here so again I don't see an issue.

Immortal - Pure Holocaust, the production on this one is one of the best things about it, I've watched live performances on YouTube of some of these songs and they sound terrible, the awesome melodies being barely discernible.

At the Gates - The Red in the Sky Is Ours, the production is kinda strange so I can see people's issue, but originality is the name of this album so it fits.

those Chasm and AtG albums sound like shit but the music is 10/10. the Deathcult remaster is marginally better than the original. Immolation's Failures for Gods is another one of those "good music, shit production" albums

I dont know how heavy you guys like your shit. I can dig some Nevermore or or some other power, but I want my shit as heavy as it can be

so I eat less bran
