I take great offence to that. While later Deicide is surely pedestrian and comes across as insincere and a self parody, the first 2 Deicide albums are great. Not top 10 worthy, but they easily belong on any "best of" death metal list and are light years ahead of Cannibal Corpse. Legion is still unrelentingly vicious to this day.

Man, I'd say Legion is anything but pedestrian. It's savage as hell.

I feel differently, the way they layered Benton's vocals aren't even performable on a stage. I'm not saying I hate Deicide, but if pedestrian means 'basic, easy to get into and entry-level' then I'd say they fit that mould.

I still quite like Eaten Back To Life actually, that said I think Cannibal Corpse suck badly.

l did laugh when Deicide used to print 'no vocal effects' on their albums...but maybe that was just the first album?
But saying that ...who cares?
What makes an album good ain't gonna come down to whether they layered their vocals or not

i should retry LEGION, i might be able to appreciate it more these days. i used to like the debut more due to the heavy slayer influence.

Yeah i used to think their debut was the better of the two for a while with the rawness, vocals and Asheim's drumming, but Legion is the superior album imo.

It's all about the utter insanity of the Hoffman brothers imo. Also I always thought of pedestrian as meaning dull, uninspired, etc.

FYI ngav3, the forum held a vote on the best death metal albums not that long ago. these 20 albums would be a good starting place for anybody.

Oh, well if that's what it means in relation to metal then I retract what I said, they aren't dull or uninspired. Those drums could never be dull.

These days I mainly go with the really old sounding bands like Pentacle and Sadistic Intent, maybe because all of those bands listed sound kindve boring now or maybe it's the really old and authentic sound of Pentacle and Sadistic Intent. Btw if anyone has recs for similar bands that would be great.
