Desert Island Albums

Don't forget about the Moody Blues. They wrote so many great melodies, it's ridiculous. And it's not just the overplayed shit like "Nights in White Satin" I'm talking about. Give A Question of Balance or To Our Children's Children's Children a try sometime if you're interested.

Alright, I'll add those two to my already boundless to-hear/buy list.:p

Except The Wall is the best album Pink Floyd did. The story behind it is absolutely amazing

The story's fine. But the music's pretty lacking. If you look at it from a songwriting perspective, there's a few great songs, and a lot of filler (whereas an album like Dark Side of the Moon is almost all great songs). I may actually prefer watching the movie version than listening to the whole album, as it seems to do the concepts in the story more justice.

Alright, I'll add those two to my already boundless to-hear/buy list.:p

Excellent... *rubs hands together*

Strapping Young Lad - City, the most underrated album ever made...I would just..drown myself listening to "all hail the new flesh" and thinking how underrated it is....

Day of Reckoning is better than Relentless imo. Burning Saviour is one of the most addictive songs I've ever listened to. I'm surprised DarkBliss didn't list Cadaver In Pains as one of his 10 though .... Also whilst MP's selection didn't surprise me, it would be one intense desert island experience with that list.

1. At the Gates - The Red in the Sky is Ours
2. Slayer - Show No Mercy
3. Black Sabbath - Master of Reality
4. Judas Priest - Sad Wings of Destiny
5. Mayhem - De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas
6. Agalloch - Pale Folklore
7. Candlemass - Epicus Doomicus Metallicus
8. Danzig - Danzig II, Lucifuge
9. Hammers of Misfortune - The Locust Years
10. Guns N' Roses - Appetite for Destruction

A HUGE,MASSIVE AND MAMMOTH OVERSTATEMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Day of reckoning is easily the highlight of pentagram's long career. There's just too much filler on the one before and after it to compete. Relentless/Be forewarned are both awesome, but they don't come close to DOR.

Anyways, heres a list of 10 albums i'd take at this moment

pentagram - day of reckoning
judas priest - stained class
maiden - piece of mind
cyclone - inferior to none
pariah - blaze of obscurity
heathen - victims of deception
tyr - eric the red
deathrow - deception ignored
candlemass - tales of creation ( blow me)
slough feg - traveller

Rush is the band that instantly sprung to my mind. With the exception of "Caress Of Steel" (which wasn't bad), every album released from their S/T through Moving Pictures is fucking phenomenal.

i really like COS... fountain of lamneth is great... the first two are kinda uneven for me

I like it, it just seems a but too inconsistent for me though. Some sections of the album are phenomenal, but others seem to just plod on without any significance.

The first two albums aren't nearly as good as albums like "2112" or "A Farewell To Kings", but I still enjoy them more than almost any other hard rock album of that time.

Black Sabbath - Volume 4
Judas Priest - Stained Class
Iron Maiden - Killers
Angel Witch - Angel Witch
Mercyful Fate - Melissa
Venom - Black Metal
Bathory - Blood Fire Death
Burzum - Hvis Lyset Tar Oss
Darkthrone - A Blaze In The Northern Sky
Pentagram - First Daze Here
Live in the now!

These, I guess:
Van der Graaf Generator-Pawn Hearts, Godbluff
Candlemass-Nightfall
Cadaver-...In Pains
Varathron-His Majesty at the Swamp
Gorguts-From Wisdom to Hate
Eucharist-A Velvet Creation
Ved Buens Ende-Written in Waters
Atheist-Unquestionable Presence
Camel-Mirage
@byrne: Cadaver is on the list, though.
My interest in DM is starting to wane little by little, but that album, will most likely remain as one of the few survivors of my DM phase.

Relentless(s/t) and day of reckoning are equally good. I still prefere s/t because of the songs Death Row,Sign of The Wolf, and The Ghoul which are hands down their best songs period. Death Row is depressing also.

Psychotic Waltz ~ A Social Grace
Psychotic Waltz ~ Into the Everflow
