Desert Island Albums

The story's fine. But the music's pretty lacking. If you look at it from a songwriting perspective, there's a few great songs, and a lot of filler (whereas an album like Dark Side of the Moon is almost all great songs). I may actually prefer watching the movie version than listening to the whole album, as it seems to do the concepts in the story more justice.
I'd agree with this. Wish You Were Here and Dark Side are better.

no you are both wrong. that honour belongs to either Rush or Black Sabbath.

Sabbath! Great band that actually did some of their best stuff after Ozzy left, although a lot of people don't even realize they kept going.

Day of reckoning is easily the highlight of pentagram's long career. There's just too much filler on the one before and after it to compete. Relentless/Be forewarned are both awesome, but they don't come close to DOR.

Filler my fucking dickhole.

Also 70s Pentagram > 80s Pentagram, which is why First Daze Here is on my list.

In no order....

Nile-Annihilation of the wicked
Darkthrone- A Blaze in the Northern Sky
Black Sabbath-Paranoid
Black Sabbath-Heaven and Hell
Testament-Practice what you Preach
Slayer-Hell Awaits
Blind Guardian- Nightfall in Middle Earth
Iron Maiden-Number of the Beast
Led zeppelin 2
Pink Floyd-The wall

Fuck that was hard

I'd agree with this. Wish You Were Here and Dark Side are better.

But The Wall is sorta "more bang for your buck" and has the best rock song ever recorded on it (Comfortably Numb)... hard choice.

My albums'd be:

Pink Floyd- Animals, The Wall, Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Meddle
Dream Theater- Scenes from a Memory
Skinless- TTWHTD (that album really... clicks... with me, despite not being a "classic")
Some fucking PTree or blackfield... probably In Absentia.
Opeth- Still Life and Blackwater Park

Then I would gradually wither away in a sad, Maiden-and-Zeppelin-less world : ( I'd also miss Meshuggah and Nile a lot... not to mention Radiohead and the Ozrics... gah.

If it had to be five I'd take just Floyd, and if it had to be one it'd be Animals

Megadeth - Rust In Peace
Amon Amarth - Versus The World
Dream Theater - Cctavarium
Devin Townsend - ZTO
Death - Symbolic
Ayreon - The Human Equation
Mogwai - Mr. Beast
Exodus - The Atrocity Exhibition... Exhibit A
Mayhem - De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas
Explosions in the sky - All of the sudden I miss everyone

Lets see, at the moment, I would choose:

Ondskapt - Dodens Evangelium
Kataxu - Hunger of Elements
Emperor - In the Nightside Eclipse
Death - Leprosy
Suffocation - Pierced From Within
Dissection - Storm Of the Lights Bane
Abigor - Supreme Immortal Art

And on a less extreme note:
Draconian - Arcane Rain Fell
Dio - Holy Diver
A Perfect Circle - Mert De Noms

I'd shoot myself if I could only listen to 10 albums. But then, where the hell would a gun be on a desert island? But for the sake of the topic...

Atheist - Elements
Opeth - Blackwater Park
Byla - s/t
Yes - Close to the Edge
Spiral Architect - A Sceptic's Universe
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
Nokturnal Mortum - Lunar Poetry
Sleepytime Gorilla Museum - Of Natural History
Cephalic Carnage - Anomalies
Miles Davis - Bitches Brew

Relentless(s/t) and day of reckoning are equally good. I still prefere s/t because of the songs Death Row,Sign of The Wolf, and The Ghoul which are hands down their best songs period. Death Row is depressing also.

Agreed.

Can you feel the force of who sits on the throne ?

(Which in English slang equates to feeling the force of someone going for a massive shit)

Oingo Boingo - Nothing to Fear
Return to Forever - Romantiic Warrior
Iron Maiden - Killers
Steely Dan - The Royal Scam
Megadeth - Peace Sells
Nevermore - Dead Heart...
Black Sabbath - Paranoid
Mercyful Fate - Melissa
Phil Keaggy - Emerging
Gory Blister - Skymorphisis

Something like that.

Now that I read through everyone's lists, I would also like to take Alice in Chains - Dirt and Psychotic Waltz - Bleeding.

Orphaned Land: Mabool
Elend: The Umbersun
Dead Can Dance: Toward the Within
Led Zeppelin: Remasters (if double albums are OK, otherwise IV)
Opeth: Blackwater Park
Wintersun: Wintersun
Emperor: Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk
Agalloch: Ashes Against the Grain
Anathema: Judgement
Porcupine Tree: Stupid Dream

Always struck me as an attempt at Opeth-ish dynamics that didn't work out too well, but to each his own

I only mention this at all because I like the rest of your list, by the way... although I'd take II over IV ; )

Pantera-Reinventing hell
Maiden-Greatest
Machine Head-The Blackening
In Flames-The Jester Race
Still Remains-The Serpent
Dimmu Borgir-Death Cult Armageddon
Down-III Over The Under
Cradle of Filth-Nymphetamine
Shadows Fall-The War Within
Parkway Drive-Killing With a Smile

I see little Opeth similarity... it's much more progressive and folk oriented than Opeth and flows better. Perhaps Elegy era Amorphis would be a better comparison.
