Dimmu Borgir, black metal & "Tr00-Kvlt" BM fans

Anytime... while wikipedia is a fun and easy accesible way to obtain information (which I happen to be addicted to) it is very likely that the likes of me (a mere high school junior with no credibility or rank) may have wrote it. Therefore, considering the source may have no credibility, it shouldn't even count as a source.

Was it a book about Schopenhauer or one of his works say The World As Will and Representation which I doubt had a Black Metal chapter?

Well I must admit that the imagery and public message on Darkthrone's Transylvanian Hunger album did keep me away from the band for some time, and I'm still yet to listen to Burzum. It would offend my evil Zionist ancestors

John Zorn - multi-instrumentalist, primary saxophonist that also coact on metal, but that wasn´t avant-garde and I think that you know it, Birkenau.

I like Immortal, I've never heard Ulver

check out Bergtatt and Nattens Madrigal if you like black metal. Kveldssanger is an acoustic. Anything after is hard to classify. Perdition City is electronic, and Blood Inside is an avant-garde ambientish album. Their later material is an acquired taste, not everyone will like it

There isn't an "avant-garde" scene, you ninny. The avant-garde is off somewhere making collages of fart sounds, bird noises, feedback and silence. The "scene" you reference is the trip hop scene, which isn't avant-garde, isn't original and isn't being led from the front by Ulver.

I never said it was run by Ulver retard. The only Ulver album even close to avant-garde is Blood Inside. True avant-garde bands, such as Solefald and Fleurety, don't make the exact same sound as one album(Transylvanian Hunger) as do 99% of black metal bands. If you want to keep defending bands who sound exactly the same and have no talent whatsoever, be my guest

PB, "avant-garde" has always been used in a musical context to refer to artists on the far flung edges of experimental music. In the early 20th century, that meant, say, serialism and other attempts at absolute music. Now, the avant-garde is working mostly with noise and extreme ambient sounds.

I can agree with what you're saying here but I wouldn't discount music such as later Peccatum and other Black Metal spin-off projects as not being Avant-Garde, even if they're not part of the Avant-Garde scene. Regardless, I still wouldn't consider Ulver Avant-Garde because the music they put out is in no way original and follows guidelines of it's own genre.

i guess you never heard of Watain, Ondskapt, Deathspell Omega, Funeral Mist, Averse Sefira, Baptism, Mutiilation, Hell Militia, Lurker of Chalice, ?

to say true black metal is dead is very ignorant, there is tons of great black metal bands outside of norway.
Ondskapt, DSO, Baptism, and Hell Militia all suck; Mutiilation hasn't done anything good since "Remains...", and Funeral Mist is no more. I haven't heard Lurker of Chalice, but given the bands that they're listed next to, I'd guess that they suck, too.

i read in the shoppenhaur book i carry with me at all times (cover facing away from me, so ppl can see what i'm reading), that black metal inherently posits an anti-judeo-christian world view so i don't really see what you're on abotu.

Lyle, I want to become you when I grow up. Seriously.

You certainly implied it, now try again.

Good of you to backpeddle...

True avant-garde bands, such as Solefald and Fleurety,

Indiepop with black metal aesthetics isn't exactly "avant-garde"

don't make the exact same sound as one album(Transylvanian Hunger)

You mean like Bergtatt and Nattens Madrigal?

If you want to keep defending bands who sound exactly the same and have no talent whatsoever, be my guest

And which of these bands have I been defending...or are you just talking out of your ass (again)?

Actually level of quality in Avant-garde is higher than in any metal genre. Partially becauste incapable musicians play old metal genres over and over.

You really are a idiot lol .. you can say that about any music genre.. be it metal, rock, blues , jazz etc.. and frankly im puzzled why you hang out in a metal website/board... ive never seen you say anything good about any metal band or metal genre.. so why bother coming on this board? did mommy block the porn sites from your computer? :tickled:

LoC is a leviathan's side project, actually not really much bm, more ambient, and Arioch is currently working at a new funeral mist album.

i wonder what do you consider good black metal album then...... ?

PS: i don't think Dead wanted black metal to be avantgarde at all.
