Yes, I think crime has a negative effect on the individual involved, as well as the society that individual lives in. A negative for your society is a negative for you, though you may not feel or even comprehend it. I think some personal negatives are guilt and shame, increased boldness/decreased sensitivity which could result in more crime, alienating some relationships, obviously increased potential for outside consequenses from the cops etc.

A lot of this depends on (A) whether the criminal actually gives a shit about right and wrong, and (B) whether the criminal actually considers the crime morally wrong. There are plenty of controversial laws out there, and breaking some of them can easily be viewed as the right thing to do.

Agreed. I wouldn't go out and kill people or rape, but I sure as hell will drink underage and not have a second thought about it. It depends on the crime, and on the specific person.

If I need to make a concrete statement I'll say this but I think some crimes can cause mental stress to the criminal. For example the thought of raping someone makes me extremely upset and that's part of why I don't do it.
