Does anyone have a leading contender for 2004 yet?

I HATE it when excessive usage of effects ruins a recording. One of my main gripes with the new Gorgoroth, which I reviewed for RC, was that the singer sings through a fucking distortion box all the time and it gets REALLY fucking old REALLY fucking quickly. Effects are just that, EFFECTS. They lose any impact if you put them on an entire fucking channel.

Constant vocal effects normally bother me, but I like the vocoder shits on Focus, gives it a real futuristic / robotic feel that suits the album.

Yes, because in the future, everyone will speak through vocoders about strange hippie crap
So you've been, too? :loco:

Ufomammut - Snailking
This is seriously fucking cool, I can't wait to dissect it little by little over the next several months. These dudes Italian?

In a 24 hour period, I fell in love with the new Woods of Ypres and Mars de Grises. So add both of those to this thread.

I guess I should start making a list of good 2004 albums somewhere.

I'm only on the second listen right now, and this is by far the runaway album this year. The first fucking vocal line (on track 2) is enough TO DESTROY EVEN GREAT ALBUMS AT 500 PACES...

Unngghghhhhh....

:kickass:

(I'm hoping this isn't just initial excitement clouding my vision)

Those were all tied for second place anyhow, still are. :p

Fantômas is one of those albums like Khanate - Things Viral, it's either brilliant or shite, and just like that Khanate, I can't even tell. o_O

I've heard the samples, these two albums are going to struggle for my love like a cornfed white chick and a slice of yellow heaven.

Oh sorry - I thought you had it waiting for you in that pile of CD-Rs. Well, you've ordered it anyway. Listen - if for any reason it turns out that you don't like it, I'll buy it from you. (The chances of you not liking it though are about the same as you thinking "The August Engine" is bland).

EDIT: where did you order it from?

The End, $12. Ordered it the other night, since even the 30 second samples on their website stuck in my head for hours afterwards.

DragonForce have now claimed #1 spot for me. Intense will have to squabble with Death Angel for the #2.
