Dream Theater - Train of Thought

I feel the same... :p

Well, it's not that bad, but it's far away from their best material... let's see if this disc surprises all of us (in a good way!)

I agree that its not necessarily a BAD song, but I mean...this is the same band that wrote A Change of Seasons, something like As I Am or 6 Degrees (the entire album) is just subpar to that.

I personally liked Six Degrees, but I can see why it'd be considered inferior to their older stuff.

James's best 'rough' vocals were definitely on Caught In A Web.

I don't really like the new song at all.

Dream theater's albums have had this 'epic' sprawl to them that I can't explain. I+W and Awake evoked powerful emotion through their abstract cover art, and listening to the albums, I remember it felt like a big adventure or a story, even if the songs themselves were unrelated. I miss that, and very few bands can do that. Craft an entire mood through album art and song style.

Other examples: The Jester Race, Still Life, The Wall, Mellon Collie and The Infinite Sadness, Operation: Mindcrime, Hellbilly Deluxe, Down II.

Let's just remember that this clip is a radio edit and is only about half of the actual song. (I really dig it by the way)

Why does that make a difference? I don't like the 4 minutes of the song thats there already, why would 4 more minutes make it any better?

Because that extra 4 minutes might feature Jordan Rudess twiddling on some horrible sounding patches.

:OMG: i just heard the song and my official comment is:

"a lack lustre attempt at commercialism. obviously dream theatre are trying to boost their rating among the mainstream mob of teenage no-hopers."

i know i cant fully judge yet because frankly they usually dont give the best songs out as samples anyway..but if thats what we have to go on then i think theyre as dead as metallica is
