Dream Theater

SC is good, although very dissimilar from I&W

better than Octavirum, and arguably ToT and Six Degrees, although the rather goofy lyrical subject matter doesn't sit well with some

I saw the video for "Forsaken", I liked the song, but the video was very cheesy.

One thing Dream Theater is known for is their terrible videos, which thankfully, they haven't made very many of. Two it was, I think. Anyone, I'm a big fan. There's not much else to say except I enjoy their music. I am a fan enough though to release a lot of their music is cheesy, but to tell the truth, I love the shit. One thing though, I wish they'd "re-do" their debut album, perhaps live. The album holds so much potential, but I just despise the production and equalizing done on the album. Not to mention I've never been a huge fan of Dominici's vocals, though his melodies are really good at times, especially when he co-sang on the 'When Dream and Day Reunite' live recording of "Metropolis Pt. I: The Miracle and the Sleeper. Anyways, all in all, I'm a fan.

Since Kevin Moore is widely regarded as a musical genius, has anyone heard any of the other bands he's been a part of?

I'm listening to Chroma Key right now, and I like it. I guess it could be described as ambient progressive rock. Moore's vocals are sorta generic but they fit the music well... I'd definitely recommend this, but musically, it isn't very similar to Dream Theater, and not metal at all.

I really hated ToT and SC. Octavarium was hit or miss. I liked the U2 ccver ( ;) ) and the last two tracks a lot. The band's been good every other album since Falling into Infinity. Yes, that means SFAM sucked too.

Hoooooooome.

the other 2 you refer to are what, tsco and strange deja vu, or perhaps finally free?

I'm not a huge fan, but I do like the band and some of their albums. Images and Words is a great album. Systematic Chaos is also good (my favourite song is Constant Motion)

Saw them twice (1998 and 2005/two nights), three excellent shows. I was hoping to see them playing "Master of Puppets", but unfortunately it didn't happen. They played "Scenes from a Memory" - the whole album though. Their shows are just fun.

Truth is, they are top quality musicians, Petrucci and Myung are monsters :notworthy

The only one I don't really like is LaBrie.

Among such songs as Strange Deja Vu, Fatal Tragedy, Home, The Dance of Eternity, Finally Free, Beyond This Life (although that circus music part is a bit... um) it's hard to say just which ones he's referring to.

Anyone who thinks Dream Theater is boring should get an earful of Pagan's Mind or Circus Maximus. Guaranteed to cure insomnia within 15 minutes.

Circus Maximus showed a great deal of improvement from their first release to their second. This no doubt indicate that the band will be a force to reckon with in the prog genre. However, Circus Maximus' first release was filled from start to finish with major DT worship.

John Petrucci and Mike Portnoy not a fan of LaBrie.

Systematic Chaos is pretty good fyi. Not to mention SFAM is their second best album (tied with Awake).

There are three songs on that album that could be the best they've ever written

The whole album is amazing.
