fave death metal band?

I'm more into melodic death metal than straight up death metal. My favorite melodic death metal band is Opeth followed closely with At the Gates, In Flames, Soilwork, The Haunted, Darkane, Arch Enemy, Black Dhalia Murder, and whoever else I'm missing right now.

But I do enjoy Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse, Nile, Deicide, Dying Fetus and that's about it.

Vital Remains slays me, so does Cryptopsy.....Myrkskog is also a favorite

i've never been able to get into bands like Morbid Angel, Decapitated, or Vehemence....to me, it all sounds the same...it actually could all be one band releasing the same CD under different group names :D

Someone tell me what so great about Nile..

Saw Nile live and i must say it was oen of the most fuckin intense moments of my life. You really cant appreciate their music till you hear them thrash it up on stage. ( used to be my favorite band but their music bores me now, kill to see em live again tho)

Morbid Angel is my all time favorite
Yes Cannibal Corpse gets old after a while and is pretty cliche.. but i have every one of their albums and I still enjoy to hear them on occasion.

Kataklysm is an amazing band..Epic: The Poetry Of War is one of my favorite CD's .. if you havent heard get it

Dying Fetus and cattle decapitation- nothing godly but i enjoy give their albums a good round on occasion in my car ( its fun to scare children )

Entomed, Anata, Suffocation...
Vader- saw them live too - fucking amazing

I honestly listen to too much death metal to list them all, I know im forgettign so many bands, but those come to mind at the moment

oh and one of the best death metal badns ive heard is Decapitate ( NOTE: NOT Decapitated )

They released one ALbum, which i Praise and sadly they all moved away, different locatiosn i assume

they were origionally from NC

Its great great music, but sadly you wont be able to find them Anywhere on the net, Ive tried

As far as songwriting is concerned, Morbid Angel and Decapitated are some of the best gifted writers in the genre always crafting memorable tunes. Vehemence has some great creative points too, I'd say "God Was Created" is a standout DM album with some great melodic sections.
"Superior Massacre" from Myrkskog differs drastically from "Death Machine" sounding more american death metal rather than mechanical Zyklon style Black/Death metal (hense Destructhor). So yeah..kudos to them for being different. Cryptopsy is an amazing band however they never change...I'm really just content with the first couple albums.

Dechristianize - album of the year for 2003 (for death metal)

I would Love to listen to Deicide, Death, Vital remains, blah blah...but that fact is...I don't kidnap my neighbors and hang them in my basement with rusty barbed wire to appreciate this horrable music. I know I am going to be hated for saying this but I really dislike Death Metal, Black Metal etc etc. It's like they are scared of life and want to write music about killing people and worshiping satan, alah, whatever god it may be. It's Pathetic.

Opeth is NOT death metal.

Hate to break it to you chief....Opeth is death metal. Not brutal or anything, but they certainly should be affiliated with it by far, if not completely categorized as such.

Hang my neighbours... I may have to consider this. You've made me realise that I cant realy appreciate death metal without a rotting corpse or two in my room. I've realy been missing out all these years.

It's pathetic to write music about worshiping Allah? Fucken hell Vindicate, do you get stupider every post? It's like UM is having a degenerative effect on you.

Well, Opeth isn't exactly "Death Metal," but Mikael said it himself that Opeth was Death Metal (he said it on the DVD). Anyways, I'd have to say my favourite Death Metal band is Morbid Angel.

Eek, deicide.. yuk

You got to give it to Mikael, as one of the most open minded musicians in metal music today, at age 30, he still wants to use growling vocals. You would think he'd play more mellow music, 70s prog, or just stick with clean vocals, but nah...

Without a doubt, bar-none, hands done Emperor. They invented what Black metal is today. They are the Nirvana of their genre. Brilliant and awesome, powerful and fearless. Thank Satan for Emperor. :headbang:

Hmmm... looking through my playlists I don't think I have too many bands that are 100% death. In fact most seem to be black metal or melodic in some way... Anyhow here's the few that I guess you can argue fit into death, at least to a degree.

Bloodbath -- I know, only 1 album... can't really consider them tops until they have several
Behemoth -- "Thelema.6" is my personal favorite
Bolt Thrower -- "Honour, Valour, Pride"... I know some don't care for it, but I love that album!
Kataklysm -- new album is really good stuff, I especially like "The Resurrected" track
Amon Amarth -- some Viking influeces (an understatement!) but still I think they fit in the death category.

That post was atrocious on so many levels that my brain wishes for a swift and clean death.
