Hmm, I belive he said he wanted to know the best of the listed "real" death metal bands. Does a band have to be brutal to be considered a real death metal band? As far as I know, Death could and should be considered "real" death metal.

Then again, nobody cares.

Don't get me wrong Death was awesome, especially the albums with James Murphy. BUT Morbid Angel writes some of the most erie and evil riffs, and they always keep it interesting. Also, being a guitar player, its tough to top Erik Rutan, and Trey. My vote for Morbid.

Ok, Nile is very very good, but something about them is lacking, maybe not, I dunno lol. I guess I have to be in a mood for Nile, unlike Morbid Angel.

Decapitated are Death Metal phenoms, but one amazing album doesn't get my vote hehe.

As far as "Old School" Death Metal goes, tough to top Terrance Hobbs, Mike Smith and Dave Couros in Suffocation, technicality and brutality.

If you are a guitar player you should appreciate death not only because of the actual band and its progressive style towards the end, but because of the AMOUNT of amazing musicians that were death members, ( also of drummers )Death was a gold mine of guitar players, i mean death can get you into cynic, and there for aghora and gordian knot, and therefore progressive music wich is great for a guitar player.

Oh dude, I am a huge progressive rock fan, gigantic even. I love Death, but for reasons I can't quite hone in on, I like Morbid Angel more. James Murphy, and Shuldiner are incredible guitar players, I just dig Erik and Trey's style more. Death may be techincally better, and I dont argue that, I just tend to listen to Morbid much more.

Maybe, but when you add Laroque and Masdival to the equation, Death outweights Morbid Angel in raw talent ( not just technical stuff ). But its not that far away anyway, and morbid angel IS amazing too, is just not as spectacular overall compared to death over the years.
